I am on a mission to become a meditation-monk and dharma-scholar who takes individuals and groups on nature-immersion walking pilgrimages to reconnect with themselves, with the dharma, and with meditation. These are called yatra. 🧵 1/5

I want to write about these experiences in the form of literary/philosophical memoir-ish essays, and am currently experimenting with this as I move from a monastery in Australia to a monastery in Malaysia, with a hike through the Grampians on the way.

I am posting this here for two reasons: to connect with others who value this work; and to seek a kind of accountability. 🧵 2/5

If others know I am doing this ~ that I am taking this seriously and honouring a dream to live such a meaningful and impactful lifestyle ~ then I am more likely to pull this off.

If I continue to harbour this ambition in private, it will only ever remain an ambition. 🧵 3/5

In Buddhism there is a term, chanda, which loosely means “wholesome ambition” or “wholesome desire”. Whereas desire in the form of taṇhā is a cause of suffering, chanda is a form of desire that moves us away from suffering, toward enlightenment, which is why it is considered wholesome.

This whole mission and vision is characterised by chanda, and I love that. 🧵 4/5

I am posting this with a photo because I want to put my face on this ~ compared with the idea of “saving face”. 🧵 5/5
