Recognized I've got lots of stuff on my Linux daily business machine, that isn't synchronized to either Seafile or Nextcloud anymore.
Started setting up a regular #backup to my SMB network drive. Turns out - it isn't that easy. #Vorta (#BorgBackup) constantly failed either on the #Borg (network connection) or the #GUI side (crashes, probably due to buffer overflow).
Now I'm running #DejaDup from @mikix. Looks good so far.
Ok, #DejaDup failed quite some times now as well. It seems anything with that gvfs network layer is interrupting the network connection. That's a little bit annoying…

Since I'm on old Debian 12… better trying the Flatpak version now…

The Debian version really was still using Duplicity while the current versions use Restic.

#backup #DejaDup

Ok, whatever backup solution I try they fail with IO errors because of the underlying gfvs SMB implementation. That's bad. Gonna try AFP, but I think that's gonna be very slow. Otherwise I probably need to update the whole system. That sounds like quite some work…

Easier to install MacPorts and borg on the server to use ssh, I think…

#backup

Ok, caught in the #Debian trap. I‘d need a newer #gvfs or #smb implementation in hope things are fixed then. But #LMDE is even slower than #Debian, so no updates yet.

Last chance: Using kernel space cifs mount instead of the userspace mount.

#backup #smb #dejadup

@lazarus You could build the required parts from Debian source packages. What exactly are the missing bits, features or the present bugs? And what Debian base does your LMDE use?
