Also #delisting #WestWorld is an absolute #DickMove and doing so should make #HBO unable to ever hire anyone working for them, because they violated a de-facto unwritten rule in #ShowBiz, and that is paying staff based upon success because many don't get paid upfront or only a tiny portion.

  • Oftentimes the same #actors and #directors are also invested in a show or movie, if not coughing up substatial amounts of the financing to the point that they can keep a series afloat when the studio is having issues (looks at 2000s MGM in anger and disappointment)...

And this ain't limited to big budget productions, but is normal down to theaters, where actors sometimes get paid their cut of the ticket sales post-play.

  • This is in part due to the financial #risk of said productions and also to incentivize top acts to stay and perform their best.

And yes, #MovieProduction was #VentureCapital before #VC firms or even their founders existed!

And the fact that this #TaxAvoidance #tactic is still legal where they literally burn their OWN CONTENT to avoid paying #Restitutions and #writeoff #losses and thus steal #Taxes owed is the biggest problem.

  • It's the digital equivalent of comitting #arson to a #warehouse just to avoid paying #tax on merch...

And #ContentImpairment needs to be punished like arson and #AccountingFraud!

@kkarhan I /have/ to pirate my Schlager and Volksmusik (I listen to it to improve my German) as the labels won't even sell it legitimately due to rights issues, made worse by Brexit (although it was still surprisingly hard to get even when UK was still in the EU, the copyright authorities across Europe didn't seem to bother with the Single Market..)

@vfrmedia THIS really grinds my gear:

IMHO there should be a "#FRAND-Clause" in #Copyright #laws around the globe, stating that if one's unwilling to sell / license at "fair, reasonable and non-discrimiatory" terms, their #Copyrights for #commercially licensed material gets canned.

  • Because the logic of claiming "damages" from "infringing individuals" falls completely flat if they ain't given the option to legitimately license it AT ALL!

@[email protected] what makes #piracy even *morally justifyable* is when there are *no legal means to obtain a physical copy and/or stream it*... - And whilst #delistings occur because a #StreamingService doesn't want to continue #licensing at the existing terms from the licensee, this is absurd [when the IP holder & licensee *IS THE SAME AS THE STREAMING PLATFORM IT'S BEEN DELISTED FROM!*](https://infosec.space/@kkarhan/115294707102153936) Like it's one thing when a #FreeTV station (like #SuperRTL) doesn't want to pay rising #licensing fees for certain shows when the IP holders (i.e. #Disney & #Viacom) decide to put it on their own non - #PayTV / #FTA - Stations (#DisneyChannel / #DisneyXD & #Nickelodeon) but *delisting own content* just to circumvent the pre - agreed-upon residual payments to cast & crew which are a cut of the #revenue of said show is just an absolute asshole move!

@vfrmedia Really makes by blood boil, but before I'd get too angry, I think @tomscott said it best:

@kkarhan this was definitely a draw for companies like Disney to have their own streaming services. They already tucked stuff away into the "Disney vault" before owning the streaming services.

@fennix Obviously #DisneyPlus solely exist because #Disney wants to have 100% of the #revenue and #profit of any of their #IP|s in #streaming.

Kinda like the #HyperScan
