South Wales is often like a set from Lord of the Rings.

@batteredoldbook adore trees, have been known to hug a few ❤️
@jackjessop These ones hug you back!
@batteredoldbook I'd be in heaven James
@jackjessop I have a good friend who's known to hug our arboreal friends. He's a gentle soul.
@batteredoldbook Intriguing
@AndersBjellerup I know! I often look at photos and just wish I could wander into them... but in this case I really can!!
@batteredoldbook I saw some Graham Sutherland paintings in Pembrokeshire that really caught that aspect. Beautiful place altogether.

@choobs Oh wow!! That's a fantasy setting alright!
@batteredoldbook South Wales looks beautiful.
@reneeclark It really is. I'm really lucky, in terms of photography, huge scenery, but also historical industry too. And an amazing coastline!
@batteredoldbook Weren’t the Prydain Chronicles ( lack Cauldren, Taran Wanderer) set there?
The Chronicles of Prydain - Wikipedia

@batteredoldbook Those are the ones! I loved reading them in 4th and 5th grade and really enjoyed reading them to my class during pandemic teaching. My students even stayed in front of the screen the whole time. (I think)
@thatchcolom What a great teaching idea for lockdown. Really lovely. As the world got smaller, you opened another world back out for them! :)

The bit of Old Earth with the Hobbits

@batteredoldbook Was just thinking that before even reading your comment haha. Thanks for sharing this is awesome
@BearsShouting Hey thanks! It's like this film set that's right on my doorstep!
@batteredoldbook so like something straight out of Tolkien.
@LauraJG And I think Elvish was influenced by the welsh language too!! :)
@batteredoldbook looks like where they filmed the Cottingley fairy thing
@WillTootMaybe You're right Watson! Quick there's not a moment to lose!!
@batteredoldbook The woods of South Wales are consistently underrated
@Marthorse Agreed, but, you know, best to keep 'em under our hats, eh? 🤫
@batteredoldbook gorgeous. I’d love to visit Wales some day.
@amythicwitch Do come! It's as good as everyone says... but remember there's a reason why it's so green. Lots of healthy precipitation!!!
@batteredoldbook that is stunningly lush. My god. 😌
@josh Isn't it? Kinda healing its so restful and inviting.
@batteredoldbook it is. Kind of like what social was when it got going. More of this, please.
@josh Yep, I think we all need a bit of a reset, and beautiful places really do help!
@batteredoldbook Is that part of the Celtic rain forest?
@lizwadsworth65 I don't think so, I think we're outside the area here down south, but it's certainly stunning whatever its classification!
@batteredoldbook Indeed. This could look like the setting for where the hobbits nearly encounter a Black Rider in the woods.

@adamtattonreid That's the thing, it's fantastical and it's real. You can actually walk down there. And there's real wood elves down there too*

*Possible exaggeration

@batteredoldbook they prefer to be known as forest elves. So as not to upset the fungi by favouring the trees.
@Suz_green Am so lucky to be able to go up here whenever I like. It's an absolute joy.
@dawnthur I know. It's just amazing. And it's just up the hill from me. I could go there now. It's unreal but it's reality!

@batteredoldbook Lovely photo - Reminds me of Puzzlewood on the Welsh border

Legend has it that Puzzlewood inspired JRR Tolkien

@russellengland Oh wow, thanks for sharing that. I am now going to go there, that's definitely happening!! Will post photos. Thanks!
@batteredoldbook Yeah its a magical place. It's been used as a set for loads of films, including Star Wars.

@russellengland Oh thanks for that. Now I'll be humming YUB NUB for the rest of the day. 😂
