Geiger counter project! (Or more accurately, Geiger clicky thing). Did this outdoors. Which I have decided is much better for your healrh/lungs than the garage or workbench. Photos... #geigercounter
Despite reading the instructions and schematic carefully, still managed three mistakes in putting this together (fixed). Wrong resistor and the tube clips in the wrong place, and hard soldered the 555 timer instead of soldering the socket. #electronics
@ai6yr OMG we're still using the 555? That's like the second IC ever created (slight hyperbole.) 😱
@bosquebill LOL I am happy this kit is all through hole components, frankly.
@ai6yr What? At your garage sales you haven't stumbled upon then fixed up an old wave soldering tank?
@bosquebill I have a reflow toaster oven, but I just prefer to not have to deal with tiny stuff, ha ha
@ai6yr Yeah, hard enough to see the big stuff even with your fancy magnifying headset 😉
@bosquebill @ai6yr
Tell me it couldn’t be improved with a pair of 12AX7s.

@ai6yr

Well, you know the old saying.

"Oops"

@ai6yr Glad to hear 555s are still a thing more than 50 years later. As a teen I built an automatic exposure timer project for an enlarger from a magazine. I had all the parts but the NE555. I found a supplier in Atlanta who sent me one for free.
