No, I will not be shamed by #unix #greybeards into using #vim or #emacs for all of my text editing needs. Yes, they have a lot of good features, but I'm just too used to the #cua keybindings to completely rewrite my muscle memory. #obsidian and #kate do 99% of what I need text editors to do. Although, that #orgmode looks a lot more functional than straight #markdown ... I wish I had stayed in the CS program back in college; we used emacs all the time, I'd have learned all the M-x codes by now.
To be fair, my use cases are a) writing novels, b) keeping random notes, and c) piddling around in #Lua in hopes I'll eventually write that #pico8 strategy RPG I've always wanted. (All my work stuff is done in #microsoft because, well, work do be that way.) Yet, since I am a #linux user, I feel like I'm a poser since I can't get the hang of vim keybindings or org mode or tiling window managers or bash scripting like all the Linux Youtubers I watch. I dunno, maybe that's just a "me problem."

@rivercityrandom Completely agree with you about CUA. That's why I use CUA mode in Emacs 😂

Jokes aside, long live freedom of – and respect for – choice!

#Emacs

@rivercityrandom Perfectly ok. But know that you can use cia in emacs.
@rivercityrandom it’s all about using what makes you feel good and automating only what annoys the most

@rivercityrandom, learning vim or emacs to a usable level doesn't take that much time, IMO. You just need to use it exclusively for a week or so. Go through a tutorial, print a cheat sheet, and be amazed at your own ability to learn and adapt.

(Mastering these tools might take a tad longer 😀)

@rivercityrandom No shame in any of that, but if the calling of org-mode ever pulls you back, remember to enable cua-mode and keep (most of) your muscle memory.
@rivercityrandom #orgmode was the single reason I started using emacs. I highly recommend it because it's awesomtacular! I still use vim for simple edits though.
