Egypt comes to Inverness! A really beautiful cast iron shopfront in an elegant Egyptian style in Fraser Street, between Church Street and the river. I’d hazard a guess at 1870s, unlisted and zero sensitivity in converting it from a retail frontage to whatever. It deserves a lot more respect than it’s received to date. #scottisharchitecture #HistoricEnvironmentScotland
@StockbridgeArch Inverness should have its own city council. The Highland Council is to spread out, trying to cover both a city and a largely rural area the size of Belgium.
@LillyHerself It doesn’t have one?? Gosh, absolutely agree. Is there discussion about one being formed?
@StockbridgeArch They took a vote on it last Spring, and to my horror a very young Green voted against it, and this tipped the scales so it didn't win. Stupid, stupid girl.
@LillyHerself Ouch. You’d have thought devolving power appealed to the Greens. Wonder how long it will be until they get to vote again?
@StockbridgeArch I'm not sure if you'll be able to see this, due to paywall: https://www.johnogroat-journal.co.uk/news/five-votes-sinks-bold-move-to-consider-break-up-of-highland-368904/ It doesn't explain what went on very well, but does give some background.
Five votes sinks bold move to consider break-up of Highland Council

Most councillors backed a move that will see the whole region run from Inverness despite widespread dissatisfaction.
