Just watched this video on the early days of #IRC. It brought back a lot of memories of all the hours I spent there back in the 90s. I even learned some stuff about why it was called the #EFNet and things like that. I met my wife there back in 1995, so those were important years for me. I know it just isn't the same these days, but understand what they're talking about there at the end.

I guess this would be a good intro to asking, did you know #Fosstodon has an IRC channel?

@mike

Fallback service, that been working for like half a century, is a good thing to have. Plus the other benefits it comes with.

@mike what is the irc channel?
@jason123santa It's #Fosstodon on Libera Chat.
@mike @jason123santa I've been using IRC at work for the last two decades. Its the only communication channel that just keeps on working. It would be cool if there was a matrix bridge to Libera chat's #Fosstodon Using IRC on mobile can be painful.

@beerw0lf Yea, that would be cool to have the bridge. Unfortunately pretty much anything that requires a lot of typing can be painful on mobile.

@jason123santa

@mike @beerw0lf Yeah its better off to just go download irc on mobile or keep irc to pc and laptop only
@mike Yeah but it kinda is dead compared to here, last I remember
@XxAlexXx Yea, it's pretty quiet there, but how quiet really depends on timing. Fosstodon has almost 10000 active monthly users, and even 10 people being active in an IRC channel at the same time can make things pretty lively. If even 1% of Fosstodon's monthly active users also participated in the IRC channel, it would be a crazy busy place.
@mike Ahh. Memories of the trout slap... 🙃
