@ancientorigins A homonin species from a couple million years ago, Homo erectus, would have qualified as a giant, but they died out or evolved into Homo heidelbergensis, who became Homo neanderthalensis and the denisovans (who haven’t been officially designated as a subspecies yet, although that could happen soon. The problem there is the lack of enough fossils to do a canonical description. Genetic evidence suggests it to be the case, but paleo anthropologists are stodgy buggers.)
