N.b., https://ciberlandia.pt/@marado has augmented this poll with further options for those of us who are 41 or older.

@rperezrosario @CartyBoston yeah, I'm over 50 and I must say, my life changed a lot in the past 10 years, so it's a completely different category.
As a senior engineer, I can take on most exciting projects, leaving the routine and boring stuff to the younger folks. I enjoy teaching and sharing the knowledge, and I've got much more of that than in my 40's. Also, as I earn more, I have more time for exploring the things that I just like to explore (for example, DIY electronics for the disabled, as we have sadly a huge number of injured people in Ukraine).

Learned mainframe coding on a VT100 the hard way. I had a couple manuals, a green screen, a couple phone numbers I could call. 1987. They still had filing cabinets full of punch cards. Stacks of tapes in the corner no one could read. Fun times.
When I retired in 2020 I had a wall of books about programming environments, stats, and math. Nobody wanted ANY of them.
This is definitely more representative of the Fediverse demographics.
@mina @marado @suetanvil @rperezrosario
also if you were to expand the survey to those who aren't techies you will find the demographics skew even older (there's a lot of people in their 70s and above who joined Fedi over the last few years, particularly progressive-minded older folk from the USA and UK)

Why include 10 yr olds?
Sorry, it’s my stupid math brain. Those brackets form a series of numbers except for the 10 should be an 11. I used to write a lot of reports that included age brackets.
11-20 21-30 31-40 41+
The 10-year-olds don’t fit the pattern.
I thought the original poster might’ve had a reason that 10-year-olds are in there - something like “that’s when kids start coding now, in the fourth grade”.
Around thirteen I was taught to use a slide rule. ;) Got a four function calculator in 7th grade! Later on a TI-59 I played line-command Lunar Lander as a teen.
When they came out I got a Commodore64 and taught myself basic and started modifying Snake and Gorilla. lol
@rperezrosario @PChoate because they damn wel qualify?
I learnt programming before I was ten, and I know two kids who acquired an LPI certification at ten.
Good for you.
Sorry about that, I didn’t mean to imply 10 year olds couldn’t program.
Frankly, I think the lowest category should be 1-10, and the categories should extend up to the age 100.
But I don’t think Mastodon polls allow more than four categories or something unless you play games with it.
I just like symmetry.
This proves what Ive always said, we really are bunch of old farts...
@u0421793
Condolecences happily received
(I actually significantly reduced in recent years and not just because illness that's for sure. 😌)
@rperezrosario
@Enema_Cowboy @rperezrosario So you started with puch cards.
Respect.
