But, I also talked about making films part-time, that anyone can be a filmmaker - and the importance of leadership, kindness, & building skills that will help you in ANY job.

I went in with a goal of helping reframe the conversation around filmmaking, art, and careers - that you don't HAVE to do it as your job, that anyone can do it, on almost any budget (depending on your story), and that many filmmakers (even ones you see on the big screen) have other jobs to support themselves, & that full time filmmaking is financially not available to everyone - but all without scaring students off of trying, especially because I wanted them to know that they can just make art!

And I hoped to take some of my presentation's time to help encourage students to be themselves, be the kindest people they can be, and to be leaders wherever they are, because I think those are deeply important life skills - especially around this age range.

I think it turned out to be an interesting presentation that is relevant and age-appropriate from middle school through college ages if a student wants to get into making films or videos personally or professionally.

I wanted to be a different voice for them rather than a hyper career focused, money focused conversation that puts a ton of pressure and unrealsitic expectations on students at young ages. The video is VERY honest so that young people can understand a non-glamorized look into this industry and decide if it is right for them, without disencouraging creativity, and even trying to encourage more of it through experimentation!
