How to fight fascism in one minute today:

Here is what you can do to stop Trump’s attack on US Late Night Host.

Jimmy Kimmel has been suspended. His show is owned by ABC, and ABC is owned by Disney, which is a global enterprise.

So if you have a Disney streaming subscription, just cancel it and watch something else. It is that simple.

Just say no to tyranny.

@randahl What would be easy for those of us who don't have a Disney subscription? I've stopped wearing my Mickey Mouse watch, but that's about all I can see.
@Eetschrijver Tell everyone you know to stop going to Disneyland.

@randahl Well, obviously. But of course those who care know, and those who don't know also don't care.

I'm most of all pretty amazed at the inherent assumption that everyone has a Disney subscription and/or buys Disney products.

@Eetschrijver @randahl ... or even that everyone reads Mastodon/ActivityPub.

@randahl @Eetschrijver Been saying that ever since I went myself.

Seriously. VERY overrated. The kids don't even like it.

@randahl @Eetschrijver then you will have tyrans at home.

@Eetschrijver @randahl

ESPN
Marvel
Fox Network (Not Fox News)
Photobucket
GoPro

Vanguard Group and BlackRock are the biggest shareholders in Disney.

#Disney #JimmyKimmel

@skua @randahl I'm afraid I'm going to get somewhat predictable here. 😂

@annehargreaves @Eetschrijver @randahl

The next option isn't "easy".
But it might be fulfilling.

Go watch some Tabletop Shakespeare by Forced Entertainment.

And do some tabletop storytelling.
At home, homes, or in public if you like.

@randahl It’s never been easier to support democracy: You support democracy, and you even SAVE money.
@randahl - Excellent Solution
@randahl ok I see an opportunity here to get all this cool talent together and develop an entertainment corporation not owned by a major corporation?
@randahl I'm sad to say I am an MCU fan, but I won't be seeing any Marvel movies until Disney gets square or someone else buys the franchise.
@randahl if the last eight avengers movies didn't convince you to cancel idk what to tell you.
@randahl - and send that money to PBS instead.
@randahl
Would love to, but no/rarely opportunity.
No streaming, stopped watching movies (they usually repeat only old stories anyway), in constant social distance....
But yes. There are many ways to "say no" to oligarchs (causing tyranny). ✊🏼

@randahl

>Just say no to tyranny.

and start sailing the high sea

@randahl Shows on Disney+ are out on torrent in a matter of hours or days from broadcast. Just wait.

And don't ever go back. Say they back off from forcing him to kiss ass and pay fines and he goes back on. Never go back. Just torrent shit from now on or read books. The books in the Star Wars universe can be pretty fucking awesome. The Zahn trilogy is awesome. Very few people know about Jade and she's like my favorite "jedi". The depth offered in books far exceeds film.

@randahl we should probably go any startup we like and threaten them to stop supporting them if they sell themselves to monopolies
@randahl you might be misunderstanding the situation here. many, many Americans are gladly in favor of a strong man dictator and I'm not even kidding.
@randahl Took about three minutes. For those who only ubderstand $ and power, not getting any of mine
@randahl If you're on cable or satellite, you can get at them harder by cutting the cord. In 2022, Disney made $10B from cable/satellite "carriage fees" on ESPN - that's their cash cow, and it's more than their entire Entertainment Division makes, across every brand.
@randahl @briankrebs When you cancel you can choose a reason. Choose "Other" and tell them it's for Jimmy Kimmel and to support the first amendment.

@randahl

easy, cancel ESPN. because ESPN makes Disney more money per year than the rest of its operation. because ESPN and therefore you, pay the back end Disney infrastructure to distribute ESPN, that would hurt them more than anything wlse, it also hurts to pro trump NFL etc as well.

@randahl Disney is a massive conglomerate, and you likely purchase something from them. Here's an infographic of the companies they own. If you can, try to stop buying just one thing. Small actions can have a big collective effect. #VoteWithYourWallet
P.s.
No judgement or shame on those with kids and they absolutely need Disney, there are many things you can still boycott.
@randahl There are great shows on Disney Plus, and it would be a shame to miss out on them. Thankfully, piracy still works great :D
@randahl Disney is the Nintendo of television, TBH... It's the club of DDAD - don't deserve a dime.

@randahl there’s also this option: https://mas.to/@kims/115228300444395252

But I think it’s important to make the message to ABC/Disney about complying with an unconstitutional threat from the FCC. Canceling the show and/or firing the host is much less offensive than allowing the gov’t to dictate content in a way that violates the first amendment. They’re protecting their station’s licenses by changing the content rather than by demanding their rights be respected; we should call on them to make that demand

Here's an effective way to boycott that allows a company to change their behavior and keep your goodwill: Watch your ABC local news affiliate tonight. Take note of the advertisers These ads were paid for months ago so the advertisers have not yet done anything wrong. Unlike Disney/ABC, they are still in the neutral column But they have an opportunity to not renew those ad buys. Write to them and tell them you will not buy their products if they continue to advertise on ABC @[email protected] @[email protected]

@randahl they won't do it as they stay on Instagram and other Meta platforms, they will use AWS services or stay on YouTube 😉 people are cowards and far too much swallowed in their comfort. That's where the fascists keep their balls strongly
@randahl
I just canceled and gave as the reason: For not standing firmly in defense of our right to free speech
@djembro way to go, Djembro! 🙌🏻

@randahl If you're not a sports fan, and you have ESPN as part of your cable package, call them and ask them to remove it from your package.

Disney profits insanely from carriage costs on cable TV.

@randahl buy a DVD/Blu-ray player and buy some disc from Half-Price Books or Goodwill
@randahl Don't get me wrong, but I really doubt a boycott is practically working today.
Generically speaking, first of all, is difficult if not impossible to identify if a product belongs to an organization you want to boycott.
In the end boycotting disney (for example) means to identify so many products and services, that leave you in the end without alternatives and products and services.
So if you really want to boycott in the end, who lose is who boycott because remains without alternatives.
Big companies are like a medusa, tentacles everywhere, you cut one and 1000 are already out there elsewhere, the company is not really damaged in any way.
Even worse for companies that carry important services, like water/food/telecommunications/etc.
Even disney I'm sure has the hand in places and services that one can not avoid to use.
The only thing one achieve is a moral satisfaction, but is quite useless to really push a company like that to change policy/idea. Money is what all they care of.
