CYCLE ADVOCACY ALERT for Davis/Sacramento Region:

The Yolo Causeway Cycle Path is one of the main ways cyclists get from Davis to Sacramento and vice versa. Closing this path puts cyclists into cars, which ain't good.

Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates (SABA) has advice on how to contact state and area officials to get them to adopt better methods of letting PGE upgrade their pipeline.

@meganL Gah! I hate-hate-hate when agencies are like, "we can keep this enormous highway open for cars during construction, but keeping a little bike route open is just too hard!"

Admittedly, providing a shuttle is better than I usually see. The normal "solution" is that you just don't have any bike route until construction is done, which is worse. Even so...

I emailed a brief rant to the effect of, "Not all bikes can fit in a shuttle! Did you think of that? Huh? And that's especially true of cargo bikes (often used by commuters, people with kids, and car-free people) and adaptive bikes. Did you even think about equity when planning this?" except, um, much more polite and measured than that.

Anyway, thanks for the heads-up about this.
