It is essential for everyone to recognize that ABC didn't just fire Kimmel for daring to speak things that the Trump regime and its cult don't want spoken out loud.

It was DISNEY that fired Kimmel. Disney owns ABC.

The principal cowardice in this butchery of free speech belongs to Bob Iger, CEO.

@dangillmor

Excellent point. Too often we fail to recognize that there are people behind these decisions. And those people should be held responsible for their actions.

@dangillmor Did he get fired or simply indefinitely shelved? Seems that the FCC has no case and this is clearly a situation of "prior restraint".
@jeffmcneill @dangillmor If you believe we still have rule of law.
@eschaton @dangillmor We will see once the Supreme Court decides a few cases along these lines... But yeah, not sure about that...
@jeffmcneill @dangillmor That lack of surety means it has already failed.
@jeffmcneill @dangillmor The fact that this came down from the FCC makes this a pretty solid breach of the First Amendment.
@dangillmor it's not even Disney. It's Sinclair. They own the majority of ABC affiliates. When they say they won't air a show, the ad revenue evaporates. Immediately. Boom, the program has no market, nowhere to air. Even if Disney was still going to produce the show, Sinclair says "no one's going to see it because we won't broadcast it" someone else could pick it up. But why but the show as is. If there's anything they want they'll let it crash. Strip it for parts and repackage on a new platform
@dangillmor isn't the root cause the shareholder market model where corporations are forced to make the number go up by any means?
@dangillmor Having worked at TWDC, "cowardice" is one of the company's core values.

As soon as Alien Earth is finished, subscription cancelled.
@davidgrieve no need to wait. It's available in various torrent forms.
@gryzor
I want to pay the team who made that particular show for their work. I will be voting with my feet as soon as its done.
@gryzor
I've never used a torrent in my life.
I'm in the UK, so I can get along quite well with the various free online services we have here (BBC, Channel 4, ITV, there are more). I'm currently working my way through Red Dwarf on the BBC iplayer.
My local tip (dump) has a charity shop attached to it, x20 dvds for £1. I got The Wire season 1+2 for 10p last month.

@dangillmor what would Walt have thought?

Waits for someone else to do the search which I could easily do about his politics.

@dangillmor did it myself, and Wikipedia seems to say that while he was accused of various racist views there was little proof and that he seemed to be against Nazis in WW2. So suspect he wouldn't have been happy about this.
@dangillmor colour me completely unsurprised.
@dangillmor Corporations should not own media.
Private persons should not own mass media.
@dangillmor I canceled my Disney/Hulu/ESPN bundle when they fired Terry Moran. Now I guess I have to research who advertises on any Disney owned media and let them know I'm boycotting those companies as well.
@dangillmor What would MICKEY do?
