People often ask me: How can you “sell a Linux phone” to a regular user?

In Europe, the answer is simple — just look at the software options and who controls them:

- Apple (US)
- Google (US)
- Huawei (China)

Now compare that with:

Linux and its community — independent and open.

In the long run, Linux phones aren’t just an alternative, they’re the smarter choice for anyone who values sovereignty, privacy, and true digital freedom.

@piggo Well, until Linux phones become a daily part of people’s lives, banks won’t write apps for them. And until banks write apps for Linux phones, they won’t become a daily part of people’s lives... do you see the circle? 😉

@okias @piggo We obviously need to make our own #bank. Free checking account only available if you use the #FOSS #Linuxmobile app!

@opensourceopenmind @okias @piggo i think it might be a better way to push alternative Banks like the @glsbank to develop a Linux-Banking App one day;) I mean, it does not need to be for #Linuxmobile but for Linux in general (adaptable, though), right?
@MissBehave @opensourceopenmind @okias @piggo @glsbank A bit of a coincidence: This is an area that concerns us as as @ev as it is one thing that blocks users from switching so we reached out to them regarding that topic.
@agx @MissBehave @opensourceopenmind @okias @piggo @glsbank @ev That's why web platform is the main market opener for alternative operating systems. (And why Apple is fighting it tooth and nail.)
We should always demand a web app at least as a fall back for all crucial services and for government services it should be mandated by law.
@ondra @MissBehave @opensourceopenmind @okias @piggo @ev Agreed. We thankfully have that in the case of @glsbank but you still need a "SecureGo Plus" app (or extra hardware) for confirming orders. For acceptance reasons we need free, mobile friendly implementations of those things.

@okias

I went once with a friend to the then Volksbank (now called #ASNBank) to speak exactly about this topic of #AppDwang. We spoke with the corporate philosopher. He understood the message and was very supportive, but not able to change the policy against AppDwang.

Political parties should also stand up against forcing people to download apps from BigTech app stores.
