i found a snake and their bestie today #snake #garterSnake
@hi_cial I love garter snakes but they love to steal minnows out of bait buckets XD They have such sweet, darling faces...I can never stay mad at them for long lol.
@KeetahSpacecat theyre also pretty!!

@hi_cial My father is terrified of snakes and we had a well pump station that was underground but had a little door that lead down into it.

One spring he opened up the well cover to service the pump and it was full of hibernating garter snakes. Hundreds of them started pouring out and my father was just screaming his head off the whole time. It was time for them to come out anyway so none of the snakes got hurt but man, was it a sight to see a literal carpet of snakes on the yard.

@KeetahSpacecat hahahahahaha i heard of garters doing that (infesting water tanks n wells) but hahahaha
@hi_cial Like they are 100% harmless, their only defense against people is to just stink real bad so idk why my father was so scared of them. i picked up and played with garter snakes all the time and they never bit me!
@KeetahSpacecat i think its just a case of instinct brain fears venom and doesnt care or cant learn it neednt always do that
@hi_cial i guess that tracks my father is one of those people who believed he knew everything and refused to learn new things. I told him many times the garter snakes are fine but what do I know i'm just some dumb female who doesn't know anything compared to a smart republican man :\
@KeetahSpacecat @hi_cial that’s like my dream scenario I would lose my mind if I found hibernating garters at wake up time

@catgoat @hi_cial it was an amazing experience!

You need to have some sort of underground den area without a lot of foot traffic, like unused root cellars and well pump housing. They often come out in spring when there's still a bit of snow on the ground.
