Now, it's chest x-ray time.
We are still waiting for endoscopy & a unit room.
All the open mouth/unmasked coughers are increasing my anxieties. We are still stuck in ER. Mom is starving, feeling faint & still hasn't got her endoscopy. No room available on unit floor yet.

I'm sweating with anxiety & terrified my Mom's going to get infected in hospital without masking mandates & possibly die from that - like my Dad did. I'm a bit shaky from worrying.

Waited all day & Mom's been starved since yesterday at 10pm - only to be told at 6:45pm that endoscopy isn't being done today πŸ˜‘
I'm pretty sure they're just going to stabilize her some more over the weekend & discharge before Monday. Today was fucking HELL at the hospital.
En route home. Will update some more in a bit.
ER waiting area was overflowing when I left the hospital. So many more unmasked coughing openly people 😫
Mom is unlikely to get a bed on unit floor tonight.
I'm predicting another outbreak soon & increase in people asking for sick leave from late September into November. The last few times outbreaks happened in our hospitals are usually right after Summer holidays & after kids return to school. Unmasked people party through Summer, in close unsafe quarters & sickness follows in Fall - this pattern has repeated for the past few years since mask mandates were removed.
Thanks to all the folks keeping a candle lit & sending prayers up for my dear Mom. Thanks for supporting me online here, through very stressful times. I lost Dad only 2 years ago. I don't want to lose my Mom to similar circumstances.
Signing off with a photo of Mom eating her salmon dinner. Only time she's unmasked is to eat/drink. Can't do much about that when she's too weak to go outside ATM.

@PhoenixSerenity

Minimizing contact with aerosols is sometimes the best you can do; she's gotta eat after all. Glad she's finally getting something to eat, though; fasting in hospital, even when necessary for procedures, is miserable. As soon as they found out that she wasn't going to get scoped, they should have brought her something to tide her over until she could get a proper dinner.

@cthulku I had to pressure nurse to obtain an answer that it was canceled by telling her that my Mom was getting dizzy & if it's not going to be done yesterday, I'm going to feed her. I'm waiting on a call from floor doctor this morning & heading back to the hospital after that. I finally got some solid sleep last night & feel better.

@PhoenixSerenity

oh i'm so glad she's had some food although yes, i very understand the concern. but hopefully she won't be unmasked for long enough for anything to get in.πŸ€

thinking of you all and my husband is too! sending all the goodness, i hope you get some food too and some rest.

take care, love and hugs and hope to you  πŸ•―️🌿

@moonrabbit Thank you. I'm probably going to have anxiety until she's safe at home again. All the open mouth coughing & lack of masking by 90% of staff increases the fear factor for me or Mom catching covid in the hospital.
@PhoenixSerenity I’m so sorry. It must be so awful also for you to need to leave. I’ve had similar situations on the regular for 46 years with my son.
@cobalt123 I know you understand! It's very difficult to keep our loved ones safe when our public health authorities have totally failed us. I hate leaving anyone in the hospital without a personal safety advocate. It's unsafe for patients. I've been dealing with this crap in hospitals since before covid. I had to be vigilant for my Dad prior to covid for other issues with patient safety & made multiple reports to patient quality care. I've challenged our VIHA head multiple times before Covid too. I have to be vigilant with my terminally ill clients too. It's really exhausting!

@PhoenixSerenity We learned the hard way years ago that my son absolutely cannot be left alone even 10-15 minutes in ER without a family member or advocate. Once he’s on a ward I can relax more.

But then again I still only relax more when I have thoroughly educated the nurse caring for him and get a promise they will educate the next coming for the next shift. Even at that I may make a call during the middle of the night and make it clear I must be called immediately if there is any change in treatment, meds, or incidents.

@PhoenixSerenity omg I'm so sorry you're going through this
@blueemu We have been in healthcare crisis for decades & it's only worsened with covid. Our governments have FAILED.

@PhoenixSerenity am really sorry you both are having to go through this.

I also hope you both are able to get some rest tonight.

@Vanalope We will both get some rest tonight. Hopefully tomorrow is a better day πŸ™πŸ•―β€οΈπŸ•―
@pathfinder I had to walk off my anger in the gardens outside a few times today. I think it's socially criminal to not have masking mandates at hospitals.
@PhoenixSerenity
It's bad enough that you are having to deal with all the stress of looking after your mother and the uncertainty, without that as well.
In my unfortunate experience, (a mother, two years of cancer and final death, what can I say,) whilst the individuals can be great, the system itself so often really sucks.
As much as this is about your mother, take care of yourself.
@PhoenixSerenity oh no. Hugs if you want them.

@PhoenixSerenity

I am so sorry you are going through this emotional torture, and that your poor mother is in this situation. It shouldn't be this way, especially after what happened to your father. Covid protocols should be in place. I wish your mom a successful outcome, and I hope you can find a sense of peace as you wait. Sending you love and light as best I might.

@jaimeJ Thank you. I'm very stressed & worried. Really wish #MaskMandates were never removed from medical institutions - especially hospital ERs. I'm really angry at #BCgovernment / #BCNDP for #FailureToProtect when #CovidIsNotOver.

@PhoenixSerenity

I agree with you. It makes no sense whatsoever for people to be unmasked in medical settings. It's outlandish.

@PhoenixSerenity I am so sorry that you have to deal with this. I hope your mom comes through her hospitalization without catching anything. It is crazy that hospital staff do not mask. For what it's worth (not much!) I had surgery last month and was in the hospital for 6 days afterward. I couldn't mask for the first couple of days because I had a nasogastric tube. I masked as much as possible after it was out. I didn't catch anything -- whew!
@kateiacy I saw 10 different paramedics today & not a single one wore a mask πŸ’©
@kateiacy The ER was packed when I left around 10:30pm last night - lots of unmasked folks with hacking coughs. It was packed with similar numbers of unmasked coughers - early this morning, when I arrived back at the hospital.
@PhoenixSerenity @kateiacy That's not an emergency room, that's a super-spreader event.

@PhoenixSerenity @kateiacy
I'm so sorry you're going through this. I mask in the gym where everybody's healthy, for God's sake. It just isn't that hard. It's totally unconscionable to subject her to such risk and traumatize you further.

I know it's too late for this information to help right now, but FWIW these portable air purifiers can help high risk people. This US company ships to Canada, though I don't know whether tariffs might affect the purchase.

@MaryAustinBooks @kateiacy I have a small one for Mom πŸ‘
@PhoenixSerenity @kateiacy
That is something, at least, but I completely agree that hospitals can and should do so much more.
@PhoenixSerenity It is unforgivable that hospitals don't mandate masks in that situation. (Our hospital doesn't either.)
@PhoenixSerenity @kateiacy That really sucks. There is no excuse for staff going unmasked and to not mandate masks for patients as well.
@jf_718 @kateiacy Some patients can't mask due to medical equipment attached to their faces but those who can should & staff & ALL hospital visitors should be mandated to mask up.

@PhoenixSerenity @kateiacy When my son was in ER 9 hours waiting for a room in Neurology I never saw anyone masked: hospital staff, patients or visitor. We masked for 5 hours in ER till I just gave up. On the ward till Monday afternoon, again no one masked. I’m on alert should any of us get symptoms.

I was able to get my old person high-dose flu shot yesterday. We are waiting for our doctor prescriptions to get the Covid booster vaccines. This State of Arizona suddenly this last week notified all pharmacies no one can get the Covid shot without a prescription.

Really nervous as to racing a clock counting down here to be vaccinated again to at least help make Covid less bad should we get it. It’s all over Arizona. Good luck this state ever gets any sort of public health wellness, prevention or mitigation efforts ever again.

@cobalt123 @PhoenixSerenity
How awful. I hope none of your family caught Covid or anything else.
@PhoenixSerenity @kateiacy In Japan, the hospital staff (and a lot of store and restaurant staff), at least, wear masks, and it's customary to wear a mask if you have any cold type symptoms. It's something that caught on after the 1918 flu pandemic. I really thought that COVID would cause the same cultural shit elsewhere, but nope.

@PhoenixSerenity My partner was in the ICU two weeks ago for five days. The only person wearing a mask besides me was the head Doc of the ICU herself.

Serious healing thoughts out your way for your mother and for you as well.

@TomasHradcky It's horrific that mask mandates aren't at all hospitals. Eugenics isn't OK. Our PHOs are committing social murders & getting paid by our public monies.
@PhoenixSerenity πŸ«‚ I had to go to the hospital a few months ago for diabetes complication and was utterly terrified the whole time
