Chat Control will not get a majority - at least not today.

#Chatcontrol

@Tutanota It's a good step forward. But it's just a step.

This battle is far from over.

Politicians and law makers need to fully understand that technology itself is not the answer to enforce laws and policies which aims to protect citizens.

First then, such proposals will stop to surface.

And that's the challenge ahead of all #privacy fighters. To educate people about the fundamental difference between laws, policies and technology.

Technology is just a tool. It doesn't change what we think or what we do. Unless the chilling effect is the end goal.

@dazo This is the best said thing I have seen recently to explore laws like this and laws such as the age verification for adult content in the US.

Infosec Exchange

@dazo @Tutanota politicians do not understand. They are owned by global think tanks who push the same agenda in various countries at once.

The solution to this is to prosecute the ones who proposed such a cybersecurity crime, so they do not dare again.

@dazo That's true, and we'll keep fighting!
@dazo @Tutanota I see EE are advertising optional child protection facilities on their phones so if people want their children to be protected, they can order the programs.
Statutory Government obligation is overkill.

@Tutanota de jure #ChatControl was not presented as breking encryption so I am not sure if German's gov workers will not join chat contril iniciative..

But I dont have full information

@Tutanota Seeing good news these days is so refreshing ✨
@Tutanota together for freedom ✊🏼
@Tutanota Thank you for your amazing work and actually doing really things.
@Tutanota What a victory for privacy and digital freedom! πŸ₯³ Kudos to @Tutanota and all the advocates who made this happen.  πŸ₯‚
@Tutanota this fills me with hope for the EU
@Tutanota Holy smokes, that’s great!
@Tutanota The vote is not today, and the German government explicitly stated that they are looking for compromises. The fight is not over.
@themrmilchmann It's never over, but Germany said they would NOT break encryption - which is a great win, even if partial.

@Tutanota @themrmilchmann

I doubt that that's the last word in that debate. Politicians in Germany ride this dead horse for a decade now and the Federal Constitutional Court already ruled against 2 attempts to implement digital mass surveillance. I doubt that they won't try again. German partys like CDU/CSU and SPD are FOR this. They're already focused on using Palantir for datamining everywhere.

@Tutanota It's so weird and refreshing to live in a functioning democracy.
@Tutanota Great! Now see you next year

@Tutanota Look at your screenshot tuta, unfortunately slovakia is in supporting, it is so far just 2 ministers that are opposing

on the bright side we're on the minority block

@gorujocy Thanks, sorry about the mistake.

@Tutanota as a Brit, I’m proud!

also probably for the best the UK is out, they would 100% vote for this than against.

@Tutanota where can I check the results of the Council's vote? I tried looking them up here but there is no mention of today's decision: https://www.consilium.europa.eu/en/documents/public-register/votes/
@Tutanota I am also looking here but still no evidence of today's positions: https://www.consilium.europa.eu/en/press/press-releases/
@Tutanota
