Banksy at Royal Courts of Justice in London! - STREET ART UTOPIA

A new mural by Banksy was discovered on Monday on a building belonging to the Royal Courts of Justice in London. The artwork depicts a judge in a traditional white wig raising his gavel against a protester, who shields himself with a blood-smeared placard. According to British media, the mural is seen as a response […]

STREET ART UTOPIA

@streetartutopia
Naturally this incredible piece of art has been "concealed" by the Powers That Be.

Cos, by concealing it, this does not make people want to see it even more. I guess the next question is...Will They Destroy It...?

A multimillion dollar piece of art.
Concealed,
By the Government.
Because they don't like the message.

Well done, UK. Well done. (*slow clap*)

@clintruin @streetartutopia how long until our wonderful Labour government makes it illegal to share images of it online? Deemed "Harmful" under the Online "Safety" Act.
@ret @streetartutopia
It does seem like a natural progression doesn't it?

@ret @clintruin @streetartutopia

So you hide all Lowry's paintings
For thirty years or more
'Cause he turned down a knighthood
And you must now settle the score
And the endless parade of old, Etonian scum
Line the front benches, "So what is to be done?"
All part of the same establishment
I ask you again, "What is to be done?"
I ask you again, "What is to be done?"
I ask you again, "What is to be done?"

"The complicity of international corporations and governments in fueling Israel's war machine represents the latest chapter in a long history of fossil fuel companies enabling genocide and mass atrocities," said one campaigner.

Rapidly covered up with sheeting and two guards stationed, lest the proles see it and get the message.

@markslater @streetartutopia

Was that passing barrister also a prole, mayhaps?

@jerrej @streetartutopia

I don’t think the barristers are labouring (no pun) under any illusions regarding what’s happening.

@markslater @streetartutopia

But that particular barrister was obviously saying to his friend on the phone: "I will wield that mallet at those people at some point!"

@jerrej @streetartutopia

To be fair, the judges adhere to what the law says but they don’t make the law per se, and there will be also barristers assigned (or volunteering) to defend those protesters being labelled as ‘terrorists’. The legal profession are not really the bad guys here.

@markslater @jerrej @streetartutopia
It's symbolic of the justice system.

@streetartutopia

That will last about five minutes before it's removed.

@simonzerafa @streetartutopia and sold off. I could see your government making millions off it. Unless I’m misunderstanding your laws they own it since it was on the side of thier property. Most banksies get removed and sold from what I’ve heard.

@passwordsarehard4 @streetartutopia

I doubt they will remove a section of the Royal Courts of Justice to see that artwork.

@simonzerafa @passwordsarehard4 @streetartutopia Very unlikely that government would tear apart court building and sell artwork that they hate for people to see
@simonzerafa @streetartutopia I thought it was a plaster coating. Yeah, that’s stone block now that I zoom in. That ain’t going anywhere.
@passwordsarehard4 @simonzerafa @streetartutopia
if it was removable the government wouldn't sell it anyway. They would pay a company (that purely by coincidence is owned by the friend of the brother of someone in a possition of power who is in no way responsible for deciding who got that contract) to remove it, after which it will disapear from the puplic record. Randomly around the same time large amounts of money will move between untraceable accounts in bank in British Overseas Territories.
@simonzerafa @passwordsarehard4 @streetartutopia Maybe they remove it and replace a new one, blank slab.
@simonzerafa @passwordsarehard4 @streetartutopia
It's a listed building. They can't chip it off.

@Sarahw @passwordsarehard4 @streetartutopia

It will probably involve high pressure washing, perhaps with solvents. Depending on what type of paint was used 🙄

@streetartutopia
Share the picture before #chatcontrol becomes active. I guess it will be added to the detection list 🔎

@streetartutopia

this Banksy is exactly there

@streetartutopia Missing ALT text:

A photo of a stone wall of the Royal Courts of Justice with stenciled street art of a judge using his court gavel to strike a protestor lying on the ground with hands in the air, one hand holding a blank placard. There's blood splattered on the placard, presumably from the judge's assault. In foreground, motion-blurred there's a cyclist and barrister in wig and gown on their phone going by.

@artfulrobot @streetartutopia The guy in the wig and gown in the foreground is probably just a barrister, not a judge.

@streetartutopia

Until I opened the image, I thought the judge was a peacock rampant ...

@streetartutopia

Merz, Trump, Milei, Orban, Putin ....

@streetartutopia We don’t use gavels in England.
@cliveoconnell @streetartutopia That's a steak tenderiser he's beating the hapless protester with, if I'm not mistaken?

@streetartutopia

Brutal!

What the F* is up with the British government?!

Arresting pensioners for holding up signs?

@streetartutopia I like the gavel and the judge photo background with him walking by perfectly describes a language of art museum Smithsonian and law and order being frank as a pacifist legally in our line of work.
Perfect masterpiece.

@streetartutopia

Expect Yvette Cooper and Keir Starmer to declare Banksy a terrorist.

@NovaNaturalist @streetartutopia
Nothing says "respect the law" quite as well as covering up a pungent critique of it.
@streetartutopia Art has the power to make powerful messages clear. This is why so much of modern art is meaningless. Splashing something is as meaningless as the message whereas this message resonates.
@streetartutopia the police already arrested the wall and dragged it away
