The Big Half in 3:09:21. What made me think I could run a half marathon with 10 weeks training? I thought I would give it large but I was just trying to get through each Km by the end. #running #thebigholf

@abizern But you finished, right? The time doesn’t matter at all. You took part and crossed the line and that’s an awful lot more than most of us.

And you’ll have this experience in the tank for the next one you do.

@simon thanks. I’m already in next year!
@abizern 👏🏻
@simon forgot to tell you - I used a MARM line at the third water station. “Got any lager?” - at least I got laughs out of it.

@abizern You did better than him then! 😂

I’ve started irritating my daughter by sending her clips from his videos. A recent one had a splendid rant about ungrateful children.

@abizern Very reasonable time considering the amount of training. Well done!
@WTL thank you. I keep
Reminding myself that parkrun to HM in 10 weeks is an achievement

@abizern that's a very good time and you finished it on the first try is \o/

Now cake!

@woollypigs if I could only get my legs to work and get some. My quads are wrecked.

@abizern well done, you did.it! 💪🏃

10wks for a 3hr and change time, that is good, don't worry about the time though, it's just something we've all become obsessed about rather than just following our heart, and running for the fun and the adventure

@robchapman Thanks. You're absolutely right. This was just a stepping stone for my running. I managed to run a Half, and adapt to minimal shoes. I thought my ankles and calves would take a beating, but they were okay - it's my quads that are wrecked. Onwards to being able to run more.
@abizern plenty of strength work on your off days...get those legs stretched and.stronger...,10 weeks to transition into barefoot shoes and run a half marathon... it's quick, shows that you have good foot strength and resilience,
@robchapman cheers. I’m not superhuman. I’ve been in minimalist shoes for about 5 years, just not running in that time.
@abizern so not all barefoot shoes then? Minimal shoes usually have a heel to toe drop, whereas barefoot shoes are zero drop - I transitioned out of 30mm of cushion in mizuno minimals (4mm drop) 14mm of cushion then into Xero HFS2 barefoot shoes then into vibram five fingers...but I've spent the last 13 years walking (and short distance running 2-5k) barefoot when it's socially acceptable since moving to Malta, and you can't go into indoor public spaces without shoes on
@robchapman my non toe shoes are Xero Prio and HFS. It’s not so bad wearing toe shoes in public. It’s London. You can get funny looks from anything.
@abizern no, you misunderstood me,. I'm ok wearing the toe shoes, in fact loads of people here really like the Vibram, dunno if I'm a trend setter tho...it is wearing no shoes that can land you in trouble if you try and go barefoot indoors in public places, such as bars, supermarkets etc
