wondering how big are the small villages in Midsomer Murders. what with the amount of episodes they have, they must have covered a 2-300 murders, no?

i wonder if @midsomerplots knows how many people been killed in the show all these years.

I was thinking about the number of deaths in Midsomer Murders just the other day - I was assuming 500–700?

I reckon those villages must be 300-500 households, so 900-1500 people? Dunno if @midsomerplots can provide further info…??

@CurlyParakeet @blogdiva @midsomerplots Population of the fictional county would be close to a million or so, minus 500 thousand ish for to a few large towns/small cities, then another 300 for a dozen or so towns, would leave 200-ish thousand people in hamlets and villages.

Homocide rate is something like ten per million for England as a whole, so it’d be fair so say the show has a murder rate around seven to ten times reality.

@CurlyParakeet @blogdiva @midsomerplots A wild take on village murder mysteries where the town just keeps getting smaller and smaller, and nobody notices or says anything about it, it's just death, murderer taken away, death, murder taken away, over and over again like some massive game of werewolf nobody can stop playing or say they're playing or even realizes they're playing.
@blogdiva @midsomerplots my concern is detective inspector is solving multiple homicides weekly and never gets called up to London or Manchester
@blogdiva @midsomerplots I've had the same thoughts about Murder, She Wrote. Before Angela Lansbury died, I had really hoped they'd make a movie about how Jessica Fletcher was really a serial killer and had cleverly pinned all her murders on other people.
@AnachronistJohn @midsomerplots i think it was Poirot (the show) that did it first, when one of the chief inspector’s assistants say wherever Poirot goes, there’s murder. the writers of Sherlock (with Cumbertbatch) played up that paranoia really well. was a whole story arc. gawd, i really loved that show. gotta get my hands on a CD or whatevs.

Obviously the investigation should've been done by Columbo.
