Choosing Humans Over Hype! Vivaldi Browser Refuses to Add AI Features

Vivaldi says no to AI while other browsers embrace it in droves.

It's FOSS News
@itsfoss proprietary crapware that they are 🫩

@zstg @itsfoss epiphany is the sole one left

edit: GNOME web

@itsfoss They always have been against AI in the browser, ever since before it was popular with big tech corps.
@itsfoss Okay good, but rich coming from a non-free commercial browser.
@itsfoss Yay! Good for them :D

@itsfoss the privacy policy still gets me though

and proprietary - no thanks - not for something like a browser that handles a whole lot of sensitive data

@mahadevank @itsfoss especially with their own sync feature which may or may not work depending on the current orbital position of the moon.
@rozodru @mahadevank @itsfoss oh come now - I've been with Vivaldi from the beginning, but there's only been that one period of a few weeks when their servers crapped out and they struggled to get it all running again. Not a problem before or since then.
@mossman @rozodru @mahadevank @itsfoss Haters gonna hate. I’ve tried so many browsers, all the way back to NCSA Mosaic. Vivaldi is in a class of its own: brilliant.

@itsfoss Good on Vivaldi honestly. AI is great in certain situations, but I really have absolutely no need for AI features that garble up ram/cpu (looking at you Firefox).

I still refuse to use Chromium browsers, but the Vivaldi devs have always had a good head on their shoulders imo.

@itsfoss ... For now. They say it's not accurate enough atm. Which is true.
@itsfoss I'll be there when they say yes to free software and manifest v2.
@itsfoss I wish they would say no to chromium. I still don’t trust that google is sliding trackers in to it

@itsfoss YAY! I use Vivaldi. I use AI only to make fun and joke around. I don't use it on a daily basis.

I like Vivaldi.

@itsfoss shouldn't this be on @itsproprietary?
@itsfoss Mozilla could learn a thing or two from Vivaldi. And learn from Zen Browser, too.
@itsfoss
Yes but itsNOTfoss!
