Back from another #vacation travelling by #train across #Europe to avoid flying. This time we did Cambridge -> London -> Brussels -> #Munich -> #Innsbruck -> #LimoneSulGarda -> #Bolzano -> Munich -> Brussels -> London -> Cambridge over 17 days. We took the #ÖBB #NightJet sleeper train between Brussels and Munich, and the whole of the vacation was lovely. I'd actually say that with the exception of a cancelled train from Bolzano to Munich (meaning we travelled two hours later than planned and without seat reservations), the transport was pretty much entirely stress free. We're two adults, with a 9yo and a 5yo. Would totally recommend.
@philcowans how did you find the night train connection? Beginning to plan for spring/summer vacation I am constantly surprised national rail booking systems as #SBB, #Trenitalia and #SNCF Connect do integrate schedule of foreign trains but do not offer any special filter for night trains. I was hoping @backontrack would provide that.

@WuMing2 @backontrack - - when I first planned this one (almost a year ago) I didn't know of any good pan-European train search tool, so I did my own research using the various providers directly, and also using https://www.seat61.com/.

I think https://www.railfinder.eu/ (@stefanlindbohm) does have a filter for night / sleeper trains though.

@philcowans Thanks for the mention! We include options with night trains by default – even if it means a detour. The filters help you sort through the results.

Happy to hear feedback if there’s any good routes missing for a search, the goal is to simply always include all good options with no need to fiddle :)

I would rename “Night trains” checkbox with “Wagon-lits” or “Sleeper trains”. The proximity with “Travel at night” was cause of confusion to me. Also technically more correct since the two existing labels may have the same meaning.

@WuMing2 Good points! We know this one needs fixing but haven’t come up with something that works fully yet. But changing ”night trains” to ”sleeper trains” as you propose might get us 90% of the way. Thank you!
