“dumbphones” aren’t really dumb! - wanna change my mind ?

Behind those buttons lies KaiOS a

web-based ecosystem powering millions of devices worldwide.

At #IndiaFOSS2025 Badri Sunderarajan will show why you shouldn’t underestimate the dumbphone and how you can build apps for it using just HTML, CSS & JS

@fossunited Biggest issue is there is no third party upi app for kaios on jiophones so u need to choose between upi or privacy

⬆️ @ambuj @fossunited

>> need to choose between #upi or #privacy

Privacy.

That's one of the biggest allures of #dumbPhones — if you can find decent devices

@ambuj yep that is a total pain 😵

That's why I'm looking forward to #LibreFin, also presenting at #IndiaFOSS2025 which will pave the way towards changing that!

They are not directly related to #KaiOS, but being #FreeSoftware and #OpenSources means we're one step closer to implementing it wherever we want 💸

By the way, what are the other missing features you think are a must before you'd consider using #KaiOS?

I am more into a gnu/linux os with a blackberry like keyboard instead of another embedded os.

Also google is prime member of kaios team so it is going to be rough for privacy in long run.

@ambuj @fossunited fair enough, let me rephrase:

What are the other missing features you think are essential before you'd consider using a keypad based phone?

@ambuj s/rephrase/ask a different question/

@fossunited

@badrihippo @fossunited Well not much, just a linux based keypad phone with good enough hardware (comparable to androids of a decade ago) that's all I need.
