Here’s a repeat pattern for #inverteFest of my lino block print of a female Papilio memnon, the great Mormon butterfly and a red Javanese ixora flower. A large and striking swallowtail butterfly with a 120 to 150 millimetres (4.7 to 5.9 in) span, it is native to south Asia including north-eastern India, western, southern and eastern China, Taiwan, southern Japan including Ryukyu Islands, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Kampuchea, Malaysia and Indonesia . It is fond of ixora flowers. 🧵1/2
The species is not only dimorphic with different male and female forms but also the females are polymorphic (that is, they come in different forms) and with mimetic forms (mimicking other species). This one is the Female alcanor form (with the swallow tails).
