Tony Blair invented New Labour.

Keir Starmer's invented New UKIP.

@alanferrier after he chased out all the Left from Labour, he's what he thinks people want. Instead, he's as bad as the far right! What the hell happened?
@alanferrier crossing the channel is not illegal, and as you can only claim asylum in the country you have to get there to claim asylum. Starmer knows this, as a fooking barrister he argued this. The man is a vapid right wing moron.

@Thebratdragon @alanferrier

The sad thing is that so few of his party have been willing to leave. I would have hoped that most Labour MPs decided to stand because they believe in the ideals of the Labour Movement, yet only a handful have decided that they can’t support a government that stands in direct opposition to those ideals.

@alanferrier

My message to #Labour voters is that if you think this is attractive political messaging, then you're a sad piece of shit. And that's why I'm useless as a Labour politician.

@alanferrier it’s a bit like countries where they declare they have no homosexuals or no transsexuals.

In this country we have no refugees.

Only “illegal immigrants”.

@alanferrier
The UK is a signatory to the Refugee Convention.
The Refugee Convention is part of international law.
This UK policy is in breach of the Refugee Convention*.
Therefore it is just as accurate to refer to it as an "illegal policy" as it is to refer to asylum seekers as "illegal immigrants", if not more so.

*Art 31 "A contracting state shall not impose penalties, on account of their illegal entry or presence... provided they present themselves without delay to the authorities"

@alanferrier
What law prevents anyone crossing the channel? And having crossed by whatever means doesn't the UN convention allow anyone to claim asylum? Whether it is granted or not is down to the host country's investigation into the legitimacy of the claim but the act of arriving here is not illegal. Is it?
