This is from an 1878/9 magazine, La France Illustrée. I also made a picture with just the frame.

@bosak yes! I’m amazed at the skill of some of the 19th century engravers.

The publication (monthly i think) used this block frequently around different people’s portraits.

The main challenge here is that the paper was clearly folded in half each week (i have two separate one-year bound volumes), leaving a soft crease in each page.

Patches and tweezers to the rescue... er i mean, clone tool :-)
