Fixit Clinics are do-it-together community-based exploration workshops staffed by volunteer Fixit Coaches who generously share their time, tools and expertise to consult with you on the disassembly, troubleshooting, and repair of items. Bring your broken belongings -- electronic gadgets, vital appliances, cherished toys, bicycles, fabric items, jewelry etc.-- for assessment, disassembly, and hopefully repair! Fixit Coaches will be available for consultation: we will provide workspace, specialty tools, and guidance to help you disassemble and troubleshoot your item. Whether you fix your item or not, you'll learn more about how it was manufactured and how it worked, ready to share your new-found confidence and insight with your friends, neighbors, and the community at large." #DIY #RepairCafe #RightToRepair #Massachusetts #enshittification

@audrinabell progressive leadership ideally sees value in preserving space for public market use in a thickly settled, expensive area like near Harvard.
No one solution solves it- my take is 1. getting money, especially real estate investor adjacent money, out of politics is crucial, as is fighting corruption and cronyism
2. supporting candidates with a history of pro-people advocacy.
3. fight tooth and nail to keep and add to public spaces near transit hubs where events like this are expected and safe (more anti-car infrastructure, more public restrooms etc) and
4. increase taxes on orgs and the wealthy to fund muni improvement efforts, eg millionaires tax
@tonymasiello someone elseweb likened the experience to a full red line train at rush hour.
Well, there’s a demand for night markets and/or for Asian cultural events. Also imo there was not a lot of other public gathering stuff scheduled this weekend - So it all focused. Hopefully this is a learning experience for the organizers. I’m sorry you didn’t get to enjoy the thing and thank you for the recap!
I'm so glad I went to the #repaircafe / #fixitclinic at #artisansasylum tonight!
1. I had a Kitchenaid stand mixer Project which I picked up in 2016, made Significant progress back then but then Life Happened and I put it away half finished, so its been sitting in a box in the basement since then. Y'all, its back together and working at all speeds
2. Allston Christmas got me a portable record player earlier in the week, but no power cord. Now i have a power cord, and - the dang thing works fine. stylus in ok shape, built in speakers. not great souund quality but not potato quality either. and it pairs with bluetooth? fancy. #boston
The idea intrigued me too so I did some searching and found these:
