#Gospel Reading: #Luke 14:1, 7-14

#Jesus taught among the #Pharisees.

Jesus ate with a leader of the Pharisees on a Sabbath; the Pharisees watched Him.

Jesus saw how other guests chose seats of greater honor.

He spoke a parable: if invited to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, lest someone more honorable arrive and you suffer humiliation. Instead, you should take the place of least honor so the host will invite you to a better place and thus you gain honor.

Those who exalt themselves will be humbled; those who humble themselves will be exalted.

Jesus also told the Pharisee who invited him to not invite equal associates who will invite him in return; instead he should invite the poor, disabled, and others of lower station who cannot repay him, for then he will be blessed and repaid when the righteous are raised.
Why should we humble ourselves when those who exalt themselves seem more highly honored?
