Last week, we released #LibreOffice 25.8. But it's not just a major update of the free office suite – it's a strategic asset for organisations, governments and enterprises focused on digital sovereignty and #privacy: https://blog.documentfoundation.org/blog/2025/08/25/libreoffice-25-8-backgrounder/ #foss #open #freesoftware
@libreoffice I Confirm it what is writen there and I love it it even more now!

@libreoffice hmm, glad it's still progressing, but I'm worried about the word "smarter."

If it's getting a so-called "AI" integrated I hope there's an easy-to-find disable setting.

@ottaross It's not getting AI integrated, no.
@libreoffice @ottaross TBH 'smarter' in this context means that it looks aesthetically clean. Probably not the best adjective to put out front?
@libreoffice Whew - good to hear. I'll mess up my own documents 😆
@libreoffice @ottaross that's really good news, I just moved to you from MS and I'm really liking it so far!

@libreoffice

Is the irritating recovery mode thing fixed? Even though I have autosave turned if something happens to my computer, I have to click like six things to reopen LibreOffice and the document that was open.

@MylesRyden You can see what's fixed and changed here: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleaseNotes/25.8 – If there's something else you wish to see, you can submit an enhancement request at https://bugs.documentfoundation.org – But of course, we're a volunteer-driven project with very limited resources, so your help in implementing changes would be very welcome. Thank you 😊

@libreoffice

How to upgrade from 25.2 to 25.8?

@MarcusMASTO You didn't say what operating system you're using, so we can't really answer. But you can download for Linux, macOS and Windows from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/
Download LibreOffice | LibreOffice - Free and private office suite - Based on OpenOffice - Compatible with Microsoft

Download free office suite for Windows, macOS and Linux. Microsoft compatible, based on OpenOffice, and updated regularly.

@libreoffice

Can someone tell me:

Is LibreOffice now more on the side of private privacy rights,

or

Governmental scrutiny?🤔

@libreoffice
Please, for the love of Haile Selassie, just get rid of the endlessly long list of uninstalled languages from the spell checker. I switch daily between Swedish and UK English, those are the only ones I usually want to see.

#libreoffice

@mrundkvist Hi! You can submit enhancement requests here: https://bugs.documentfoundation.org – But of course, we're a volunteer-driven project with very limited resources. To get a change more quickly, you can consider helping our volunteers, or funding a developer. Thank you ☺️👍

@libreoffice @mrundkvist It's a bit frustrating that there isn't a tick box list in the language settings. Because I will never need a separate spelling dictionary for English (Belize) or English (Israel). Ever. I only need 2 of the 18 Englishes, I should be able to hide the other 16.

(And making regular users sign up for an account to submit bugs is one of FOSS culture's major problems. Just admit you don't want non-technical people to communicate with you.)

@herzleid @mrundkvist If it's not very hard, then can you help us to do it? We have extremely limited resources and a ton of requests, and very few people offering to help. They just say "it shouldn't be hard" but don't do anything to make it happen. We can't do everything I'm afraid – not without more help. And re: Bugzilla needing an account, that's to stop spam. We get huge spam attacks but again, have extremely limited resources so need logins. We're really doing all we can.

@libreoffice On one hand I get that, on the other I've actually tried participating in projects (a long time ago, not LO specifically) and I had a terrible experience every time (bc I don't code? bc I'm a woman? who knows?)

I do appreciate Libre Office immensely, but being encouraged to file bugs when I know they will likely be dismissed bc they're "formulated incorrectly" or considered duplicates etc etc, is grating. Why bother?

But sincerely, sorry you're stretched thin. Sorry I can't help.

I can't fix things at the preceding level, but upon noticing this thread, I thought that I'd take a moment to mention a positive point. I'm able to build 25.8.0.4 for my Linux distro despite the fact that my distro is quite non-standard. I also haven't noticed problems yet that are unique to 25.8.0.4.

One "build" issue is that 25.8.0.4 seems to require "mdds" 3.X but doesn't update "libetonyek" from 0.1.12. "libetonyek" 0.1.12 doesn't support "mdds" 3.X. So, it isn't clear how builds are working. But I used the Debian "libetonyek" patch linked below to fix the issue. Others are invited to try the patch:

https://laclin.com/misc/libetonyek-debian-mdds30.patch

I'll continue to maintain both 25.2.5.2 and 25.8.0.4 temporarily so that I can determine if bugs that turn up are old or new.
@libreoffice
Congratulations to the developers and everyone who supports this important project. LibreOffice is incredible after the last update, and I'm sure it will continue to amaze in future updates.
@libreoffice For me the open standards argument is good enough to choose LibreOffice. But there are plenty more reasons!
