I hope some group in Washington plasters every free square inch with this:
@jwildeboer they don't call it police in the US, they call it law enforcement. Which is an indicator that they don't police by consent.
@jwildeboer This is my favourite quote from rhat series and I thought of ir quite often lately.

@Phantastopia Seeing how the BSG series mostly "translated" post 9/11, the gulf war and Bush policy years, the other quote is also relevant, in my humble opinion:

"All Of This Has Happened Before And Will Happen Again"

(a good article on BSG and its reflections on the Bush time war on terrorism is at https://cityoftongues.com/non-fiction/essays-and-articles/all-of-this-has-happened-before/)

All Of This Has Happened Before And Will Happen Again: Humanity, Inhumanity and Otherness in Battlestar Galactica

‘It’s funny, isn’t it? We’re all God, Starbuck. All of us. I see the love that binds all living things together.’ Leoben Conoy, ‘Flesh and Bone’ (1.08)[1] …

@jwildeboer That's so true and a very interesting aspect. It hurts so much to watch the News nowadays, knowing, that this series and other fiction and history told us before.😧
@Phantastopia 2500 years of western philosophy and 5000 years of asian philosophy should have prepared us better, but we humans tend to only learn through self-experienced repetition. In good and bad ways :(

@Phantastopia But, alas, getting lost in negativity doesn't solve anything. So I continue my stoic way of sharing knowledge and experience, knowing (not hoping) that living this way makes me a better human and hoping it inspires enough other fellow humans to follow a similar path. It's a tough life, but

Sometimes you gotta roll the hard six :)

So say we all!

And now finally: the first coffee of the day.

@jwildeboer That's a winderful attitude. I love stoicism, too 😉.

So say we all. 😌

@jwildeboer The assertion that the people are state enemies is the point of all of it, I'm afraid.

@jwildeboer
I think BSG has several excellent examples why and how to seperate military and civilian state, if I remember correctly.
I should rewatch it, but following you reminded me to finally watch Foundation. And I usually don't even find the time to watch Tagesschau, so we'll see how that goes...

Wait:
I call upon Interpassivity:
Everyone, please watch Battlestar Galactica 2004 and Foundation on my behalf. Thank you very much!

@jwildeboer

Back then, we called it the "Gestapo." After World War II, we started a new democracy, and the USA helped us! In our constitution, we ruled out the use of the military within the country—except for aid after natural disasters. It's frightening to see the USA falling behind its own rules while everyone watches. I thought there were these "checks and balances" there.

@Grosses @jwildeboer

Turns out the many of the checks and balances were just custom and tradition, waiting for a leadership with fascist ambitions to disregard and ignore.

@Grosses @jwildeboer I have the sad belief that future historians will write about the US in the same way they write about the Weimar Republic as having contained the seeds of its own destruction.

@jwildeboer
#Military & #police are merging in most countries

In appearance, weaponry, and their view of the people they are send against

And in tactics. #counterinsurgency or #COIN strategies, developed to oppress #resistance against military #occupation , are used against citizens

It is not the name that makes the difference btw military & police

It is if they see you as citizens or foe, as human being or as a legitimate target

The difference if #dissent is seen as legitimate or as crime

@jwildeboer Disapointed some that the oath to the constitution they swore is not that important! #lawlessregime
@jwildeboer well, it's been more than 200 hundred years since the military and the police were joined here in Brazil, and things have been cool so far, so I miss the point

@jwildeboer

Aren’t the US people Trump’s enemy?

@jwildeboer

True… the tools of dictatorship…

I’m just gonna drop this here today… “There's a reason we separate military and the police: one fights the enemy of the state, the other serves and protects the people. When the military becomes both, then the enemies of the state tend to become the people.” **SO SAY WE ALL** 📺 https://youtu.be/HnZ53lPPsF0     #SoSayWeAll

@jwildeboer oh, to have a penny for every unheeded warning #ScienceFiction ...

@jwildeboer ideally yes but in practice the police typically serves the wealthy, and thus the average person has no force that fights for them.

In that scenario it just happens that the interest of the state and the capital are so well aligned that both forces follow the same goals and thus become one by nature.

@jwildeboer

American citizens are, in the Mango Moron's opinion, the enemy.

@jwildeboer sounds like Deep State the GOP has been blathering on about.
@jwildeboer

I agree, just one big challenge with your wishful thinking!!! There are to many looong words to the
#djt administration can understand it; It would required and education at a free school

And please stop violating
#denmark with your bad influence on the danish government #pol #uspol #dkpol #slettemette #donal #trump #stupidity #0iq #diktators
@jwildeboer I don’t think putting some West Wing quotes up is going to do anything.
@jwildeboer Incidentally, the early 2000s version of Battlestar Galactica is the absolute best thing I've ever seen on TV, ever. Just mind-bogglingly excellent. And this is true despite the lousy ending.
@jwildeboer
A short very descriptive comment that says it all.
