João Tiago Rebelo (NAFO J-121)@hrbrmstr yes, but only if you brush it with a rough sponge to dislodge any grease and particles that might be more stuck. Rinse, wash with saltwater and lemon, and repeat.

fluke@hrbrmstr you need to exfoliate it with iron filings too. Must to rubbed in with something hard, like a block of iron.
Actually the better way is to keep a magnetic key ring with iron filings on it handy and just rub that on it in the trouble spots to keep them clear and fresh.
