Hey #energy folks. I am looking for data on end energy uses in buildings for either Virginia or the Richmond, Virginia metropolitan statistical area.

I've been digging into both the American Housing Survey data and the Residential Energy Consumption Data by the Energy Information Administration.

Unfortunately both of these surveys don't sample the Richmond MSA, and only infrequently sample specifically Virginia.

I'm ultimately looking to answer questions like "how many buildings use natural gas as their primary space heating source?"

Do you know some more exhaustive data sets I should be looking at?

After a lot of searching, a friend pointed me to the American Community Survey which is part of the Census. I ended up pulling the microdata from here:

In my jurisdiction, the auditor's property tax data includes information on each building's heat source.
