The EU wants creepy AI to scan EVERY message you send. Even the encrypted ones. 😱

But guess who’s EXEMPT?

✅ Government
✅ Military
❌ YOU

That’s not just hypocrisy – that’s Orwellian surveillance.

We at Tuta have been fighting Chat Control since 2022 – and we’ve been winning. 💪
Now, we need YOU to join the fight.

Let’s save privacy in Europe. ✊

@Tutanota please add #AltText to the video
@cairobraga Thanks for your feedback, will do with future posts!
@Tutanota you can do with this one, tho, right? it's possible to edit the #AltText the same way you can edit the post. I know you always describe static images, but #AltText should be used in all media in the Fedi, not just static images.

@Tutanota

I regret the day when i learnd about all the privacy issues and invasions sometimes....

@Tutanota journalists? Lawyers? Judges?
@Okuna @Tutanota
Nope. But it's OK. Ylva Johansson and her lobbyist friends will still be able to legally communicate privately.
@sintrenton @Tutanota I could imagine there will be clever people finding some solutions for example compiling your own code or using VPNs outside the EU zone.
I would believe among these clever people will be the ones who the EU is officially targeting.
This sucks

@Okuna @Tutanota
Yeah, there are always solutions or work arounds IF you know a bit of tech.

Me, I'm setting up symmetric OpenPGP and teaching my closest OTP (One Time Pads)...
: P

@Tutanota

I find this so weird for the EU especially after the rulings against FB and Google about privacy.

@AudioTinker @Tutanota It’s the EU Council pushing this, i.e. state governments. That’s why it can’t seem to die. They presumably want to push it through the EU institutions to absolve themselves of responsibility and muddy the waters.

@VojtechHorky @Tutanota

Thanks for that clarification. Currently more focused on the political shit show in my backyard, but that chat log thing seemed not EU like. Also this age verification thing going on on UK is… out of character for them. At least to my limited understanding of stuff over there.

@Tutanota this is a security nightmare! I guess we should all start using pgp pairs...
@Tutanota It is definitely Orwellian. Question: Are high school students still reading Orwell? Are people using the word "Orwellian" without reading 1984? I mean, we all know the basic premise of the book, but it also helps to read (or reread) the whole book to get a broader sense of what Orwell predicted and how close we are to that world.

@Tutanota

This is so insane and completely out of the question on so many levels, the mere fact that one can push for this without immediately losing one's political credibility and influence and becoming a laughing-stock (and subject to parliamentary investigation) is still frightening to me, after all those years of fighting this.

#ChatControl must die, once and for all.

@Tutanota Mailed every fucking rep I have, I am sick of this shit.
@Tutanota Mandatory (on-device?) message analysis is also probably incompatible with open source messaging apps, as it would be easy to remove the feature.
@Tutanota Anyone knows mail of Croatians politicians who voted to approve this, I just need to have violent talk with them :3

@Tutanota

I just know someone in the #TrumpRegime is looking at this proposed policy and thinking it sounds like a great idea.

@Tutanota What happened to the EU who implemented all of those privacy policies?? That even some of them affected companies here in the US?? What other countries are exmpt from this? I heard Switzerland and Austria but I am not sure.

Is not a coincidence that they are implementing all of this after the online safety act around europe to silence its users and for surveillance.

@Tutanota implementing a backdoor to disable encryption is the worst thing you can do.

If there is a weakness build in, even if the reason for that is a real good one bad actors will get access to that weakness and use it.

if this weakness is enforced on all devices and apps this will be a huge issue for the security of all devices used.
This is like if every private conversation is forced to be done inside the Parliament with cameras recording it.

This should never happen.

@Tutanota I moved to sending very private chats to SimpleX Chat & Briar messenger. I use Proton mail, but not for personal details

@Tutanota might be a good idea adding an alt text to the video, even if it's just "Someone explaining essentially the same thing as what's in the post"
@Tutanota this post is kind of ironic, given that your systems flags users as spammers when they try to send the fightchatcontrol.eu email...
@phoeniqz Thanks for letting us know, we will try get this resolved.
@Tutanota Disarming civilians isn't done for their safety, it's done for the safety of the state.

@Tutanota Chat control won't work on encrypted peer to peer chats, matrix servers set up in defiance of chat control (including hosted abroad), or on any chat app that does not cooperate but which can be accessed via tor. I'm pretty sure Signal (the obvious target) can be accessed from phones set up to force all connections through Tor for instance.

Keep hammering on the political countermeasures, my focus is on technical countermeasures. Counter-law enforcement is a speciality of mine

@Tutanota or… do we just abandon the devices of the surveillance state? We liberate ourselves from phones and wearables. We hand each other folded notes on paper. We whisper kindly face to face.
@Tutanota what are y'all gonna do if it passes anyway?
😞
