When her wrongdoing was shown to her, my abuser used to flatly deny the truth, state her version of the "truth", which portrayed herself as the victim and me as the wrongdoer. This is a tactic known as DARVO (Deny, Attack, Reverse Victim and Offender).
Never try to reason with a #narcissist or expect them to be accountable. For narcs, the truth is required to serve their own needs at any given moment. They lie to others and themselves.
#Narcissists routinely distort, deny and redefine the truth and believe in these distortions deeply. Admitting to objective truth would require them to confront vulnerability or shame, something narcs generally avoid.
When they are not consciously lying, they construct and believe in an alternate reality tailored for self-protection. This is also why they tend to make, believe in and spread conspiracy theories.

#Narcissists will reject anything that contradicts their personal narrative. When they concoct lies as a response to your statement of the truth, you may get surprised and reply, "Wait, that never happened!" and they will enjoy your distress, shock and puzzlement. They will do this repeatedly.
Never try to argue or reason with a narcissist when that person tells blatant lies or tries to use the #DARVO tactic.
