Yesterday we made the spontaneous decision to spend the day and night on a lake (#PlauerSee). School starts tomorrow, so this tent adventure was a last good-bye to the summer holidays. The #lake itself wasn't very spectacular photography-wise, but there was an epic #moonrise! Guess who forgot her tripod at home and only has blurry evidence 🥲

Beautiful! Based on the rest of the image it looks pretty sharp. I don't know at all if it's the case here, but sometimes bad atmospheric conditions (heat ripples) can totally mess up moon pictures, especially near the horizon when the light must travel a longer way trough the air.

Thank you! I'm afraid it's entirely my fault. 🙈 This is one of the best shots (😭), in others, the moon looked like an egg, so it was definitely me holding the camera. I tried a litter bin as a makeshift tripod, but the lens is too heavy and it wouldn't hold up, so that didn't work either

@NotAHopeInHades Yep, just in time for summer to arrive! 😂 We were one of the first federal states to start the school break (in Bavaria it just started last week) at the end of June, and are now one of the first to go back to school. In Germany, the start and end dates depend on the state you live in, because they are staggered (well, with SOME 🤨 refusing to play along and always claiming the latest slots, so they will return to school some time in September. Looking at you, Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg!). Next year, our school holidays are from July 4-August 14, so the dates are shifting later over the next few years. They do that to prevent gridlock on the roads and railways and spread demand at holiday destinations. 🤷‍♀️

Oh yes, we have autumn holidays (2 weeks in October), Christmas holidays (2 weeks), winter holidays (1 or 2 weeks), Easter holidays (1 or 2 weeks including bank holidays), Whitsun holidays (1 or 2 weeks including bank holidays), as well as a few bank holidays and movable "bridge days" to have a long weekend. All in all, school children in Germany have 75 days off. But sometimes, they do go to school too! 😂

I have no idea how many days off we have in Ireland! Here in Italy the summer holidays are long - but they also get fewer days off during the school year and I believe they actually do the most days in school per year! I had to look up Whitsun because I have never heard of it before! It's nice to have regular breaks off during the year!! ✨

It does make sense in Southern European countries, where it's hard to work/learn in the summer heat I imagine. 🤔 But a poor trade-off when there's nothing (or not much) to look forward to the rest of the year 😅
Wait, isn't Whitsun a Catholic thing? I can never remember why we get the days off ... Jesus ... 40 days something ... uuh ... *nervous sweating*
