Well, it's official! The very first #nixbook installer is now live and completely works!

Now you can download an iso, boot to it, and install Nixbook or Nixbook Lite, reboot and you're good forever!

For those who don't know, Nixbook is basically a super easy to use #linuxmint type clone built in #nixos with automatic updates and upgrades for non technical / technical users alike!

@abnv perfect. Will add currently it's just standard x86. But I suppose.the installed could be built for arm too

@OptiplexPrime yes!!! On a tough book! Nice.

Only tweak I have to make is that the flatpaks install on first boot once your connected to the internet.

So if chrome isn't working right away, connect to the internet and give it a minute. It's installing.

I will have better flow there

@OptiplexPrime yeah it's not bad. Honestly the biggest downside to nixbook (or any nix) is storage. Which is usually not a problem. But sucks on those 16gig emmc potatoes

Great, I love people making computers more useful for everyone and love to spread what they produce.
Up to now it was mainly nextcloud-all-in-one for the cloudy side, but you seem to provide the ideal client os.

Thanks. Just watched your LFNW 2025 talk.

If I wanted to build my own nixbook distro, would it suffice to replace all occurrences of [email protected]:mkellyxp in my branch? ... apart from me mastering nix beforehand

ich suche Leute, die mithelfen, einen fork von Mikes distro zu betreuen - oder solche kennen.

Es mir erst mal darum, ein codeberg repo einzurichten und das mit Mike zu synchronisieren. Das wäre kein großer Aufwand.

Hauptsächlich zwecks Risikostreuung für die User der Distro, die ja ausdrücklich IT-Laien sein sollen.
