The mutant version of capitalism we have now -- overwhelmingly tilted toward financial looters and their cartels -- is destroying community after community. This is deliberate, not an unintended outcome. Local hospitals are just one notably egregious example.

The landlord gutting America’s hospitals

Medical Properties Trust buys up hospitals and then leases them back to health care systems. Dozens of its hospitals have gone belly up.

@dangillmor that's merely capitalism. All regulation on capital is anti-capitalist.
@dangillmor These looters are doing what the system designed them to do (it's happening in Canada, too, but so far a lesser extent). We have to change the system to make this looting impossible or unprofitable.
@dan613 @dangillmor ... erm ... may I interfere with "the system designed them to do"? It sounds as if "the system" would be some abstract entity inevitably coming upon all of us from above, which it is not.
It's people, persons born without moral compass, psychopaths, parasites, the "big" and the "small", the bold heads and the covard followers, who all have names and adresses, who designed and up to now organize and perpetuate the system.
@dangillmor mutant? Sounds like the design expectation
@dangillmor #nationalize everything. Utilities, housing, factories, farms, markets, all of it.
Take the owner class out of the picture. Then the people can work towards a way to organize it all for the benefit of all.

@captainrob @dangillmor Financial capitalism is the only kind that still "works" because we're at the end of growth. There is no way the global economy can grow anymore, at least not the real economy that actually produces things, because we have exceeded the global ecological growth limits; the planet cannot sustain any further growth, it can't even sustain the current size of the world economy much longer. Financial bubbles are the only way in which the system can still simulate growth. Right now we've got the AI bubble.
@dangillmor One way to end this is to eliminate interest.
Once you can't make more money with money, people would have to actually work and produce something to generate value.
But that will never happen because the ones owning the wealth also profit from the current system more than anyone. Thus there is no intent to change anything. That's also why they helped getting elected an idiot who can be manipulated with money. That's what they have in abundance.
@dangillmor This isn't "mutant" anything, this is the end result of Capitalism
@dangillmor adding the #MPW hashtag (that's their ticker). this company is notorious with short sellers and the whole fiasco has been going on for a very long time (unfortunately).
