🌎⚖️ Historic day for #ClimateJustice The International Court of Justice affirmed in its Advisory Opinion that #ClimateAction isn’t a policy choice: it’s a legal duty under international law. States must cut emissions, adapt, cooperate, uphold #HumanRights, & remedy harm. No more excuses. 🧵⬇️
2/ This #ClimateICJAO confirms what those on the frontlines have been saying for years: #ClimateJustice is a matter of right. 👏 And it is a testament to the perseverance of the Pacific States and students, and youth globally, who spearheaded this case.
3/ States' obligations to address the #ClimateCrisis come from a variety of international sources, inc. ✅ climate law + other int'l environmental law ✅ #HumanRights law ✅ customary international law, inc. the duties to prevent transboundary environmental harm & to cooperate
