@rbreich

My gods, you nailed it all. When was this?

@czarbucks @rbreich

Looks to be about 2008-ish. Right after the housing bubble collapse, and the Colbert Report was still on the air.

@rbreich its incredible how you can describe the problem and solution so accurarely then, and now 15 years later still the same problem maybe even worse
@rbreich Lo and behold! When did this air, btw?
@rbreich
The angry politics playbook.

@rbreich I can't recall--did Colbert give every guest the short chair treatment, or did he reserve it for people who he knew were going to be really, really right about something important?

Brilliant either way

@rbreich it's interesting to see how much it's out of vogue for rich people to call themselves rich.
@P__X @rbreich true but Colbert is clearly joking there, so I am not sure if it's a layered joke
@rbreich one of the most frustrating things about the current... everything, is how fucking predictable it all was.
@rbreich. Canned laughter 🙄. The guy isn't actually joking. He really thinks he's that important.
@richiebee @rbreich Stephen Colbert is described as an humorist and satirist, I don't know him, but I'd put a coin on "that was all satire"
@litchipi @rbreich. "Many a true word hath been spoke in jest." 🤷
@richiebee @rbreich Satire: "The use of humour, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues" (definition from Oxford languages)
@litchipi @rbreich. Indeed. Being English and highly literate I'm good with word definitions. I'm also completely aware of the juxtaposition of an early stage comedian and "satire" and the difference when they are fully fledged club members. They stop even having a basic nuance of humour. Ben Elton. He realised that the notion of the Establishment that he lambasted was now his playground. Ricky Gervais. Hypocrite and an incredibly arrogant man. 🤷

@rbreich

Einer ist reich
andere heißen so
...

@rbreich We all want to redistribute wealth. Some want to redistribute it down, some want to redistribute it up.
