Fellow #kdrama watchers, what are you watching right now?

I'm juggling several dramas (the problem with having a short attention span and needing to change things up regularly, plus different people sitting in on dramas with me).

On the go for me currently:

Melo Movie
- only 2 episodes left! Watching with M so must wait for her to be available long enough to get both at once.

See You In My 19th Life
- halfway through! Watching with R, finally.

So I Married the Anti-Fan
- more than halfway through! Watching with my online kdrama club friends, one episode per week as is tradition

Descendants of the Sun
- 3 episodes in with M and R! This was the second kdrama I ever saw, and rewatching it now many years later, I keep getting excited at actors I now recognise lol

@hobiis I just watched β€˜Our Unwritten Seoul’ and I really liked it!!! I’m not watching anything right now, I don’t know which one I should start πŸ€”

@SaraR Netflix has been recommending it to me! But I haven't looked too closely at it yet. Is it fast-paced or a slower one?

As for what to watch next, have you seen Undercover High School? I honestly couldn't believe how much I enjoyed it. I also just recently finished Link: Eat Love Kill and liked it too - both have a thriller aspect.

And, of course, if you haven't watched Weak Hero or Study Group, you gotta get on those ones!

@hobiis

All over the place with my watching right now.

Watch Parties:
-- Imperial Coroner (1 eps left! #cDrama) really entertaining
-- Law & the City (2 eps in) good so far
-- Reply 1997 (12 eps in) love it, but am dying to know

--------------------------
-- Bad & Crazy (1 eps left) really unique cop thriller.

-- Moon Lovers: Scarlett Heart Ryeo (2 eps left) can't yet bring myself to an ending I know I won't like

-- Love in the Moonlight (on eps 7) slow watch

-------------------------
REWATCH
When I went to Korea for the month of April & then had to do stuff to start moving to Portugal, my review stuff got messed up.

I started taking notes when I finished a series so that I could post a review later. But a few series got by before I started that, so I'm doing some fast rewatching.

-- When the Stars Gossip (I meant to only watch the 1st & last eps, but it was so good, this is now a full on rewatch.

-- Motel California (a bit of fforward, but so much better for me this time around)

#kDrama

@whoosh @hobiis just finished #LovelyRunner which I really enjoyed.. next up will be #Goblin.. but I can only watch one thing at a time.. my brain couldn't cope with having several #kdrama series on the go at the same time like most of you folk do!

@hanktank61 @stuffjolikes @hobiis

It's funny. I used to be a voracious reader and I could never read more than 2 books at a time (& one had to be non-fiction).

But with dramas, I find I want various types for various moods. And then I have no control over watch party choices or pace so those don't even really count.

There's some serious thought that goes into what will balance out my list to meet all my moods. And then of course you all post about some great drama and I take a peek and then I'm hooked, so this is your fault. Yes, that's it. All your fault......πŸ˜‚

#kDrama

@whoosh @hanktank61 @stuffjolikes @hobiis
I'm also watching THE IMPERIAL CORONER! It's like BONES, but in ancient China.
I'm also watching OUR MOVIE 😒😒😒.
I'm watching the Japanese version of MARRY MY HUSBAND. I loved the kdrama, and they are doing a really nice job with the Japanese version.

@JanineFromPgh

I heard such awesome things about the Japanese Marry My Husband! An IRL friend of mine loved the webtoon and was really mad about the changes they made to the Korean drama, but also loved the Jdrama so that has to be a good sign!

@whoosh @hanktank61 @stuffjolikes

@hobiis @JanineFromPgh @hanktank61 @stuffjolikes

I didn't read the webtoon, but the Korean "Marry My Husband" had Park Min Young (a favorite of mine). And I loved it.

Still trying to mostly stick with Korean as it helps with the language learning.

@JanineFromPgh @hanktank61 @stuffjolikes @hobiis

It is like BONES! I hadn't thought of that. I'm always wondering how accurate the coroner depiction is, but I've really enjoyed it.

@stuffjolikes @whoosh @hobiis
Haha, I generally only have one MAIN kdrama going at a time, which I may or may not binge, depending on how much Real Life is occurring at the time. However, I usually also have a few watchparty or weekly shows going on, sometimes weekly, occasionally daily.
MAIN
Diary Of A Prosecutor, with the late Lee Sun Kyun
Watchparty:
Healer with Jenni
Reply 1997 with Wendy
Law and the City with Wendy and crew
Weekly:
Our Movie has just completed. Currently searching for a replacement series.

@EllenInEdmonton

Ohhh, Healer has been on my list for SO LONG! I really want to get to it but I keep talking myself out of it when I remember it has so many episodes.

@stuffjolikes @whoosh

@hobiis @stuffjolikes @whoosh #Healer is only 20 episodes. Once you get into the story, you’ll probably want that much or more. There’s a very interesting historical backdrop to this series.
@EllenInEdmonton @hobiis @whoosh I avoided #Healer for ages for the same reason but wish I'd watched it much earlier.. it was the first thing I saw with #JiChangWook who is one of those super talented kdrama actors who can do anything .. rom com, action, musicals, period drama as well as sing and dance. I absolutely loved the hacker too - very different from the 'mum' type characters #KimMiKyung often plays. They are both in #WelcomeToSamdalRi in very different roles.

@stuffjolikes

Ohhhh I have been thinking about how much I want to rewatch Lovely Runner, but I have too many other things on the list so I can't justify it! haha. It's even got an extra special place in my heart because it featured one of my absolute favourite kpop boys as a support character (the band's guitarist, played by N.Flying's Seunghyub).

I haven't made it past episode 10 of Goblin in months... unfortunately it's pretty slow-moving and I'm not really a fan of supernatural romances (especially involving high school students) so it's been hard to want to keep going. But it's SUCH a kdrama classic and SO many people love it, so I gotta see it through at some point!

@whoosh

@hobiis @stuffjolikes

I *love* Lovely Runner and it's on my rewatch list, but like you, I am having a hard time finding time to rewatch.

I felt weird about the relationship in Goblin too, but there are so many references to it, that it's a must watch. Once she gets older, it is much better.

@whoosh Lots on the go, that's for sure!! I'm eyeing your review of When the Stars Gossip because I've only heard poor reviews for it so far πŸ‘€

The only other one I've seen from your list is Reply 1997, and I am soooo excited for you to reach the end! They really kept us wondering for SO LONG and it was SO HARD not to look up spoilers! It was my first Reply and one of my earliest kdramas, so it holds a special place in my heart.

@hobiis I am down to Cafe Minamdang and The Best Hit on my own. Trying to get these done before starting anything new.

With my partner: Weak Hero, Prison Playbook, and Rented in Finland.

@commonst Do we say we have an "ult" in kdrama watching? If so, Weak Hero is one of my ults... How are you liking it so far?

I started Cafe Minamdang but only got through the first episode before setting aside for something else, and then never went back to it! The others I haven't looked at!

@hobiis we have gotten 2 eps into Weak Hero, but it's on the violent side and we're not in that headspace right now so it's waiting for a bit. Haven't given up, just need some other things to quiet down in life.

I have watched Cafe Minamdang 3 times now, I love it. I find it great fun. Just finished this rewatch now, since I gabe myself little else to distract me from it this week.

@commonst Yes, definitely on the violent side. I will say that the violence in s1 is also more serious in tone than the violence of s2, which leans more into the webtoon-y aspect of the story! It kept me on the edge of my seat tho, and honestly I am jealous of those who started watching when s2 was already available 🀭
@hobiis I just finished First Night with the Duke. I liked the funny parts the best.
Also watching Nine Puzzles, which is pretty good.
Spouse isn’t up for a constant kdrama diet (unlike me πŸ˜›) so waiting for him to be ready to start The Queen Who Crowns.
Also doing a Healer rewatch with @EllenInEdmonton
Love it & haven’t seen it since I first watched it a few years ago.
@jcurries @hobiis
Oh, I loved The Queen Who Crowns and plan to rewatch that soon.
Wendy and I watched Nine Puzzles, which was pretty fascinating.
I started First Night With the Duke but bowed out halfway through, waiting for feedback. Some finishers felt the same as I, but many folks loved it, so I may resume soon.

@jcurries

Spouse is simply wrong πŸ˜† We had to get over that quickly in my house, hahaha, because I'm always in kdrama mood and now R has to retreat to the bedroom TV if not wanting to participate!

@EllenInEdmonton

@hobiis watching just one kdrama at the moment "Fight for my way" (2017), and it's funny
@drnya91 Ohhh this one has been on my list! Maybe this is one to recommend to my weekly kdrama watch party once we wrap up our current drama. Anything in there that might require a content warning? (parental death, kid death/abuse, sexual assault)
@hobiis maybe mild violence because of the taekwando/MMA fights of the ML, for the rest, it's very light, but i'm on episode 9...
@drnya91 good to know, thank you!!

@hobiis Weeell, if I go by MDL currently watching and a pick from on-hold...

Alchemy of Souls
Descendants of the Sun
Familiar Wife
Hello, Me!
Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha
Hot Stove League
Hyena
Little Women
Love Your Enemy
Summer Strike
The Tale of Nokdu
The Uncanny Counter
Under the Queen's Umbrella
What's Wrong with Secretary Kim
Twenty-Five Twenty-One

🫣

Some should probably go on-hold though. And some on-hold to dropped πŸ˜…

I'm just a bit too stubborn to actually drop stuff

#kdrama

@joakimfors @hobiis Life is too short. The Drop is Your Friend

Just don't drop Hot Stove League or Summer Strike πŸ˜€

@ronsboy67 @hobiis I won't. Just need to be in the mood for HSL and Summer Strike is heaaaaavy, both are great though.

#kdrama

@joakimfors @hobiis Summer Strike is heavy? Is it the 2022 Im Si Wan 12-episode #kDrama ? I really enjoyed it, and remember it as languidly paced, but not dark or heavy. Maybe I need to rewatch it

@ronsboy67 @hobiis Might be a bit of personal triggering.

#kdrama

@joakimfors @hobiis Ah, been there, done that, got the t-shirt. In that case, "batter up!" πŸ˜€

@ronsboy67 @joakimfors @hobiis

I thought Summer Strike was heavy, too. She is really scraping the bottom of the barrel at the start. All of the characters have been so traumatized and are grasping to keep surviving. I recognize the scary kind of quiet deep depression in it.

@JillsJoy @joakimfors @hobiis sounds like I definitely need to rewatch it. I thought it had a downbeat start, but found it lighter than, for example, MLN, which I also loved
@ronsboy67 @JillsJoy @joakimfors @hobiis
I finished, and mostly enjoyed 10 of those. My vote for continuance would be 2521, because those young people have so much zest for their lives and their futures. Their passion has really stayed with me. And Cha Cha Cha includes so many interesting side stories that I enjoyed.
Still, I have a few series where I've only watched the first couple of episodes and they didn't grab me. It's hard to go back and start again with them.
#kdrama

@EllenInEdmonton @ronsboy67 @JillsJoy @hobiis 2521 will get its turn. I'm like @whoosh that it's very mood based watching. Currently doing Uncanny Counter to probably be able to tackle Summer Strike (SPOILER: I personally HATE losing or misplacing stuff so I have a reaaal hard time getting through her losing all her gaddamn money  ). Loved the beginning of it, a bit "hyperrealism" like MLN but way more traumatic from the get go and it just seems to get worse as Jill said

#kdrama

@joakimfors @EllenInEdmonton @JillsJoy @hobiis @whoosh

"Loved the beginning of it, a bit "hyperrealism" like MLN but way more traumatic from the get go and it just seems to get worse as Jill said"

Yep, I've REALLY got to rewatch it because this doesn't sound like the same Drama at all - especially the "it just seems to get worse" bit.

@ronsboy67 @joakimfors @hobiis Summer Strike is heavy when it comes to work place harassment, psychological violence and abuse. Both leads had their scary past.
Plus there's an unresolved murder in the plot.

#kdrama #SummerStrike

@s1m0n4 @joakimfors @hobiis Yes, I do remember the setup episodes as being dark, but I don't recall it as "just keeps getting worse". For me, its overall tone was hopeful, not heavy. Especially compared to MLN which remained grim to the end

@ronsboy67 @joakimfors @hobiis I haven't watched My Liberation Notes. So far the heaviest k-drama I watched is probably Youth Of May. And it starts as a light #kdrama!

I found #SummerStrike quite heavy when Im Siwan resumes his career as a mathematician towards the end.

@s1m0n4 @joakimfors @hobiis When everyone except me says it's heavy, that's why I say I need to rewatch 😊
@ronsboy67 @joakimfors @hobiis well "heavy" is also subjective. Personally I am more sensitive to psychological violence than physical violence.
It's great that we're all different πŸ˜„!
@joakimfors I love this list because I am exactly the same!! I very, very rarely drop dramas but have many on-hold because I haven't been in the mood to continue. I try to keep the dropped list for ones I deliberately decide not to continue with or finish for a reason!

@hobiis

I don't have any #kdrama going right now! I just finished #FatedToLoveYou earlier this month.

I finished the #cdrama
#TheStoryOfMingLan last night in a pretty fast binge. πŸ˜…

The 1995 #AChineseOdyssey movies will be leaving Netflix soon, so i watched the first one this weekend. Think 1990s Mel Brooks comedy on a classic. I can compare to #AKoreanOdyssey , too!

#WinterBegonia is a watch party ending soon. Very good!

#WandeeGoodDay gets too steamy for me to watch often. #ThaiBL

@JillsJoy Winter Begonia has been on my list since 2020 but I'm intimidated by 49 episodes! It's been a long time since I've successfully watched a many, many-episode cdrama (looking at you, Nirvana In Fire and Oh My General).

I love the idea of the Chinese Odyssey movies, so will float that past my watch party crew! We prefer to save movies to watch in between dramas, but I wanna catch these ones before they go.

@hobiis I just finished a couple of CDramas, and am thinking about starting Delightfully Deceitful on Netflix
