It was an experimental, residential community created through the #edgeryders network, inspired by monastic life. 2016.
http://unmonastery.org/ is link-rotted pretty bad, but the link to github hadn't (credit where due) and there is one repo with all the publications intact: https://github.com/unmonastery/the-memory

The UnMonastery documents that got left behind are like a strange, self-referential puzzle. A lot of stuff seems like arcane in-jokes, but then some stuff comes across plain and clear like
"‘The idea that acting as if one is part of a group is optional, denies the nature of being part of a group.’"
