PAKIDGE *presses snoot against the storm door glass waiting for FedEx to show up*

*absolutely fucking VIBRATES in excitement*

#NewGearDay

It took me quite a bit longer than expected to get everything put back together after tearing it all apart for the new desk and new decks, and I still have a few more things to do before I'm ready to call it done... but derg has his comfy DJ booth corner again!

Too late to play with the new DDJ-FLX10 tonight but HOLY CRAP I'm so excited to explore this controller and start making some music!

@baralheia DJ stream, right?
@Tracken Soooooonβ„’
@Tracken I want to get several practice sessions in and put a few mixes out there before I jump into streaming but yeah that is the goal!
@baralheia I knew it xD Those buttons could only be on a pioneer! Not a bad choice at all, enjoy.
@baralheia I used to own the Denon Prime 4, which is basically this, but made by Denon. Was a good one, too.
@catraxx eee thanks! I was really thinking about trying a Denon but decided to go Pioneer instead mainly because I want to get proficient with something similar to a club standard layout with Rekordbox. Once I get my skills built up tho, I definitely wanna give Denon a try.
@baralheia I mean to be quite honest the differences between dj softwares are kinda minimal ... you can use Mixxx and you will still get a good idea.

@catraxx I mean true, I've used both Serato and Mixxx and overall the concept is still the same... But still, both lack the 3-band waveform that I prefer, and I also haven't figured out how to make them give me a live "related tracks" view like Rekordbox either. I know Serato has smart crates, but I haven't played with them enough to see if I can make them work like Rekordbox.

If I wanna use Mixxx in the future tho, I'm gonna have to try and help with a community mapping... There currently isn't a mapping available for the FLX10 :(

@baralheia Eh, never liked track suggestions in any app tbh. I know my collection. All i need is key guidance.

@catraxx I'm still new enough that I want that guidance. Really the only one I use is the BPM+KEY one tho... I could filter my collection every time but the related tracks view just makes it so much easier and quicker to find my next track

Eventually once I'm confident enough in my skills I won't need it... but it's really handy for now.

@baralheia Dare to make mistakes.

@baralheia Ok, i guess i should elaborate. As a DJ, what people value you for is your taste. Your opinion of what is good and what isn't. You guide people through the evening. You. Not some algorithm. Some tracks that seem way off bpm-wise can sound pretty dang sweet when sped up. Some key matches make no sense whatsoever on paper, but still sound amazing.

Additional little bit of intel: None of Fatboy Slims tracks are on key. And they all sound great.

Let your taste guide you.

Takes longer. Can be frustrating. Is worth it.

@catraxx Trust me, I understand what you're saying... But I mean, it's not like I just accept the first track Rekordbox suggests. The related tracks view shows me like 100 tracks to pick through. I'm still actually choosing the tracks I wanna play - Rekordbox is just helping me narrow my scope. I want to be more confident in my transitions before I throw caution to the wind and try something wild, y'know?
@baralheia @catraxx You'll be surprised how much the audience will pick up on the energy of the DJ , especially in person. If you're stiff but have amazing technical skills, you'll appeal to the folks listening who also understand the technical side of mixing, but if you're loose and are seen to be enjoying yourself, you can make the odd mistake here and there and the crowd will still love it
@micah @baralheia Sadly there are not too many who appreciate the skill in mixing or even good transitions, they kinda need to understand whats happening. But people understand passion very easily.
@micah @baralheia And that goes back back to what i said earlier: Play what YOU enjoy.
@baralheia so cool. just in general as an art piece its very attractive, not even considering functionality
@Leviamicky Eeee thank you!! Yeah I wanted a fun comfy vibe for myself, while trying to keep it visually interesting for when I eventually force myself to start streaming too. I think I did pretty decent, but I need to add more dergs lol
@baralheia Sweetwater box? What's in it? ^__^

@sekka Oh, you know, just a lil' something something...

I'll post more pics once I've gotten everything rearranged and properly set up!

@baralheia I think that's showing great restraint, considering you could fly around and sit on delivery vans until they hand it over.
@SeldenOtter Right??? I mean, I would, but the problem is I don't know *which* FedEx truck it's in and they get *mighty* perturbed when impatient dragons start peeling back the lids on every truck they can find lmao
