CALLING ALL CROCHET GEEKS AND GRANNIES

Do you want to crochet something that ends up in a mathematical art exhibit in Paris* next summer? Join the project at www.grannylifecrochet.com

* We will find out in September if the project makes it into the Paris exhibit

@mathgrrl so cool!! shared offline with someone I think might be up for it. on here, could I request for you to add the information content of the image to the alt text (at minimum the website url)?

@iris I think there is already alt text, is it not visible to you?

also, great that you have someone to share it with! thank you!

@mathgrrl right, yes, but if I'm reading the text and not the image, I can't see what the referenced instructions are or where I could look them up. That's what I meant about information content.
@mathgrrl I'm in! I usually avoid granny squares, but I'll make an exception for this project.
@mathgrrl The Malabrigo Rios is really expensive yarn. Just wondering why you chose it. The cost might exclude some crocheters.
@juneb Agree, it is FANCY yarn, kind of the best in my opinion. Since this project is hopefully headed for an art exhibit in Paris (!), it has to be art and exhibit-quality. Next project will be more accessible but this one is for Paris :)
@juneb If anyone wants to make a practice square in scrap yarn and then contact me to show they are truly interested, I could potentially send them a little bit of yarn to make a square in the Malabrigo Rios for the project? Each square takes about 1/5 a skein of white and 1/5 a skein of another color
@mathgrrl Thanks for the reply. I'll buy the yarn and share the remainder with friends.

@mathgrrl

Interesting project and I love the general look of the squares.

But to be honest: the yarn requirements were a hard no. I understand you want a cohesive look so settling for a certain yarn and even having one color appear in each square: totally understandable. Choosing something really expensive: I'm not so sure that is a good idea.

I was already filling out the form, but I quit when I realized you expect me to pay about 30€ to participate.

@FanCityKnits Totally get it! In the future I think I'll have a more accessible project, but for this one it has to be super high quality yarn.

You can also use the free pattern to make your own high-complexity motifs, and the free app to generate such motifs. If you or anyone else tries out the pattern in other yarn and gets the details right then maybe I could mail you a little kit with enough yarn to make a square for the project ❤️ 🧶

@mathgrrl

Thank you.

I have an idea what to do with the squares and if I use any of them I'll make sure to give you a big shout out because I totally love what you do there. I really like the combination of math / science and fiberarts

@FanCityKnits @mathgrrl am I correct that the form is the first place where you can find the yarn requirements? I didn’t see them on the site. Thinking about it it makes total sense to prescribe a specific yarn for a coherent project, but it was a bit of a cold shower.

Will make a square in stash yarn anyway, as a physicist/data engineer and fiber artist it is irresistible!

@FanCityKnits @mathgrrl never mind, it’s also in the pixie square instructions

@mathgrrl I don't understand the lack of a link in your post. Google wasn't esp helpful and threw up a lot of trash before I found the site.
