They pressed on the #panel and there was a click. In front of them the wall slide open revealing stairs. Darkness pooled at their bottom inky and forbidding.

"Okay, Scooby let's find that treasure."

Washday Gremlin

#wss366 07/18

The gremlin sat counting socks, almost a baker’s dozen. There was the unicorn one, three dull white ones, Jenny’s heavy black hiking sock. She stroked the #washed-out tie-dye sock the kids had made for Father’s Day.

It was washday, and she had her eye on the strawberry print ones. She hoped her next assignment was as fun. Blue screens and randomly moving files were boring. Loosening bolts on airplanes could be fun. There were openings at SpaceX; they were on a hiring binge. That was a wash. Rockets were interesting, programming not so much. But eating socks was her fav.

#Chuck Stevens

#wss366 #WordWeavers 7/19 Use humor: Reck'on I do

#WritersCoffeeClub 6/16: Use eye dialects?

Chuck” Stevens rang the chuck wagon triangle. He was used to the nickname as well as the tired jokes that tickled the cowhands’ funny bone.

They greeted his limp with, “Did ya fall in a chuckhole?” Or one would holler at dinner, “Are we havin’ chuck roast?” Another would reply, “Naw, just range-hare frick-a-zee.”

He’d hear that one tonight. Supper was stewed rabbit, caught by one of the boys, with cheese biscuits made from cheddar bought in the last town.

“Come’n get it ’fore I chuck yer out!” he yelled. Better to laugh with ’em than to be laughed at.

I knew that name Chuck Stevens sounded familiar, probably why my mind chucked it out.

Cat Stevens -> Chuck Stevens.

Don't get a fat head, Cat, it's not a homage. I still don't like ya.
