The aftermath of Hurricane Sandy left the Lower East Side and East Village without power for about a week. We were the only people who stayed in our building, and honestly it was glorious.

It was really an amazing time. As scary as it was it times it's turned out to be one my most cherished New York moments for the sense of community and camaraderie.

Great photos! I was kicking myself for not having a standalone digital camera at the time. I got this shot after using the charging station.
Hurricane Sandy was devastating but moments like these reminded me of why I love NYC. One of my favorite memories from that time was Bleecker Street Pizza staying open despite a lack of power, continuing to make pizza with their gas-powered ovens.
