How worried should I be that there's a 5ยผ" disk poking up through the ground at the local cemetery?

#RetroComputing #DeadMedia

@scruss Iโ€™m guessing that this is the start of a horror movie called Bad Memory.
@scruss Actually Dead Media is excellent.
@Nickiquote @scruss
Maybe it's undead media? ๐Ÿ˜ฑ
@ahimsa_pdx @Nickiquote @scruss Not sure how worried you should be yet. It depends on what is on the haunted media. I've got a 5 1/4" drive.
@scruss ghost computing, eh. So we have to do this stuff even after we die? Great. hahaha
@scruss "BLOOOOOOOCCCCKKKSSSS......."
@scruss I feel like I've seen this episode... Buffy? I think?

@scruss That's ok, no worries, that's their natural habitat nowadays.

But if an 8" one shows up, please urgently call the local branch of Men in Black, at (555) 6666-666

@scruss many years ago my grandmother was buried with her repository of handwritten love letters, and the secrets within. I think - maybe somebody was buried with their hard disk -this might be the 40 years fast forward. Not sure if the secrets are safe.
@scruss ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ™€๐Ÿ˜ˆ
@scruss Keep digging! You might find ET game cartridges and Lisa computers! #RetroComputing
@btaroli @scruss They're easy to find. Try to dig up a Osborne Vixen.
@geoffl @btaroli @scruss still looking for one of those....
@scruss That is not dead which can eternal lie
And with strange aeons even death may demagnetise
@scruss Not worrying, the underworld runs on OS/2.... and will, forever.
@scruss you're part of something bigger now. Gotta find a compute that can read it and figure out the clues.
@scruss Prolly about a 7 on the 10-point scale.
@scruss buried with their ASCII art porn?
@scruss you can probably still read it man those that's from the era where things were made good
@scruss (Commodore) PET Cemetery
@scruss The necromancers are raising dead programmers to get security updates for old gov systems? Or maybe vulns
@scruss At least it's not zombIDE
@scruss It Wants To Be Read. Great flick
@scruss Wha wha what? So weird!
@mcourcel yeah, it's in the cemetery across Kennedy Road from your house
@scruss Oh, you mean the cemetery at St Clair and Kennedy? Neat!
@mcourcel No, there's a little one just south of the railway tracks. There used to be a church there - Bethel Primitive Methodist - but it closed in the late 19th century
@scruss Oh wow, neat! I'll have to check that out./
@scruss I wonder how much of it might be recoverable... would be curious what it originally contained lol
@scruss
A hand from the grave pushes the disk upward. Hey man, erase my porn OK?
@scruss
I own a shotgun and I am NOT going back! Zombie media needs to stay the hell away.
@scruss DISK RECOVERY ERROR. THIS PARTITION IS DEAD. WOULD YOU LIKE TO REFORMAT?
@scruss a zombie computer virus
@scruss Cronenberg's THE STROUDS.
@scruss
Oh boy. This seems like a Plot Point
@scruss Well the bad news is you have summoned a daemon, the good news is it's swapped out so it hasn't paged into this dimension.
@ChuckMcManis @scruss swap on floppies, now that's a thought...
@scruss I have read enough creepypasta to know that it likely has some sort of game on there, complete with an ominously-named savefile and both text and graphics that gradually deviate from the original.
@scruss new logo for Necroware?
@scruss Not much. It's just a data back-up.
