A couple of weeks ago on the other account, I wrote a very short thread about my increasing frustration with Very Serious PeopleTM asking if Trump really means it every time he starts rambling on about all the fascist shit he wants to do. In that post I mostly noted that Trump, a fascist, literally has no idea how to tell a joke, has at least *tried* to do all the nazi shit people thought he was joking about in the past, and fascists in general were not known for their sense of humor. Whether or not Trump is actually able to *accomplish* all the nazi crap he says he wants to do, is often a matter of debate. But if he says it, he means to give it a try.

What brought that outburst on, was an article about a democracy watchdog group warning that people weren't taking Trump's threats to circumvent term limits and run for (or make himself) president again in 2028 seriously enough, and that was a bad idea - a position I agree with wholeheartedly.

I'm bringing this up now because apparently the slightly less disgusting Cuomo had noted fascist propagandist Steve Bannon on his podcast this week; Bannon remains a very close ally of Trump and a big supporter of the regime even though he's not actually working in the government this time. During that discussion, Bannon revealed that the Trumpist political movement is actively working on ways to secure a third Trump term already:

https://www.commondreams.org/news/can-trump-run-again-in-2028

'We're Working On It': Bannon Says Planning Underway for Trump 2028

"Appearing on journalist Chris Cuomo's NewsNation podcast, far-right mouthpiece Steve Bannon demurred when asked if he had ambitions to run for president himself, replying: "No, and I'm a firm believer that President Trump will run and win again in 2028, so I've already endorsed President Trump."

When Cuomo pressed Bannon on the existence of term limits that would bar Trump from seeking a third term, Bannon said, "We're working on it. I think we’ll have a couple of alternatives, let’s say that. We’ll see what the definition of term limit is."

"We've had greater long shots than Trump 2028 and we've got a lot of stuff we're working on there," Bannon added. "We're not prepared to talk about it publicly, but in a couple months I think we will be."

Setting aside the fact that this podcast episode should not exist, because Chris Cuomo shouldn't be inviting fascists on his show to normalize fascist ideology and openly lie on behalf of the Trump regime with only mild pushback, I watched the clip; aside from what's quoted here, the only real notable addition I would make is that Cuomo let Bannon duck a question about whether or not the fascists would try another insurrection to keep Trump in power by touting how popular the regime was, and implying Trump would simply win anyway. Let's just say this wasn't Chris's finest hour, even if he did avoid literally agreeing with the nazi propagandist on his show, about nazi shit, like California Governor Gavin Newsom did.

What Bannon didn't shy away from is revealing here, is that Trump absolutely intends to run again in 2028 and his minion strategists are working on a way to circumvent the 22nd Amendment of the US Constitution which would otherwise forbid that. As I've mentioned in a number of articles, we seem to be seeing a pattern of the fascist right transforming Trump's seemingly fantastical ravings, into a type of "unreality" enforced as if it were fact by the larger fascist movement, and then transformed into real and direct action by the regime itself. Given the reality that Trump has repeatedly mused about clearing the way for him to run for a third term in multiple public settings, and we now have a fascist propagandist who is closely allied with Trump revealing that the larger regime is "working on" making that a reality, I think we can safely dispense with the idea that these guys are joking.

So will the nazis get away with this? I mean, who knows; it's not easy to legally change the Constitution, but I have no idea if Trump even cares what the laws say anyway - his actions in power thus far suggest that he literally does not. Right now, the nazis seem to be in the planning and manufacturing popular support stage of this particular autocratic fuckery project, but I'd be inclined to take Bannon at his word when he says we'll be hearing more about it soon, because while Steve is a nazi liar, he rarely lies without a purpose. What I can say is that since Trump was sworn in as president, I can think of dozens and dozens of things he's done that Very Serious PeopleTM swore he couldn't do, and so far he appears to be getting away with the vast majority of it.

Yesterday, Downmarket Mussolini signed an almost certainly unlawful executive order to restrict voting access in a made up quest to combat nonexistent "voter fraud." Although the order will definitely be challenged in court, its existence is an ominous portent for US elections whether Trump succeeds in enacting it or not.

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2025/3/26/trump-signs-new-executive-order-to-change-election-rules-what-we-know

Trump signs new executive order to change election rules: What we know

"Trump’s order is likely to face legal challenges, given that the Constitution gives authority over elections to the states.

Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes said he and state Attorney General Kris Mayes are already in discussions about a possible lawsuit, describing the executive order as “an attempt to federalise elections”.

Fontes said that the order appears aimed at creating the illusion of misconduct in the electoral process, potentially to justify “cancelling the election later”.

“It’s very methodical, and very, very dangerous,” he said in an interview with Votebeat , a nonprofit, nonpartisan newsroom focused specifically on US elections, on Tuesday. “You have to pay attention not to what the executive order says, but what the end game may be. I believe the end game may be that Donald Trump wants to stay in office in perpetuity.”

Much like a lot of Der Führer's executive orders, this is a brazen attempt by Trump to usurp powers from other governing bodies (Congress, and individual state governments), based on false accusations he's trying to sign into existence, through the end-around mechanism of federal funding - except this time he's trying to effectively rig elections for the fascist Republican Party. While many experts have opined that the order is unlikely to survive legal challenges, it's still important to look at what Trump is trying to do here, to understand why many observers believe there's a darker long-term strategy to justify preventing an election to remove Trump at all.

First he wants voters to submit proof of US citizenship to cast a ballot. This demand is part of a longstanding GOP crusade to rig elections through voter suppression because as the article notes, it would disqualify millions of US citizens who legally have the right to vote, simply because they don't have acceptable documents; as one observer noted, roughly 146 million Americans do not have a passport, and advocacy groups have estimated that millions of poor, marginalized, and underserved Americans struggle to maintain documentation, particularly if they've experienced periods of homelessness. Furthermore, this order opens up the possibility of married women being denied the right to vote (intentionally, or otherwise) because their names no longer match their identity on a birth certificate. Would you care to guess whether or not poor people, marginalized people, and women are more important parts of the Republican, or Democratic base? Right.

“This would prevent only a tiny amount of noncitizen voter registration but stop millions of eligible voters, who do not have easy access to documents such as passports, from registering to vote,” Richard Hasen, an election law expert at the University of California, Los Angeles, said in a blog post."

Trump's order would also restrict mail in voters by requiring ballots to be *received* by election day to be counted; currently 18 states allow mail in ballots to be counted so long as they're postmarked on or before election day. Want to guess which party traditionally wins in most of those states? Would you like to guess whether or not by mail absentee voting traditionally favors Democrat or GOP candidates? Right.

Finally, and most importantly for the rest of our discussion, Trump's order empowers the Department of Homeland Security and the Elon Musk-led DOGE, to "review state voter registration lists – and, if needed, use subpoenas – to ensure compliance with federal standards." Can you think of any *good* reasons why two of the departments most loyal to Trump and most enthusiastic about the regime's fascist agenda, would be put in charge of investigating voter registration rolls to solve a "voter fraud" problem that doesn't exist? Yeah me neither; unless you wanted to lie about non-existent voter fraud schemes to generate support for say, cancelling a Presidential Election entirely.

Of course, it's entirely possible that none of this survives legal challenges, but I think leaving it at that might miss the point of Trump's strategy here. He's going to use states fighting back against his attempts to rig elections, to argue that they're the ones who want to rig elections in a type of fascist jujitsu. For what purpose is as of yet unclear, but this is a man who is already talking about ignoring the constitution to serve a 3rd term, has threatened to invoke the Insurrection Act to potentially suspend elections in the past, and behaves as if he sees himself as the King of America; so what exactly can we rule out?

Over the past nine or so years, I've repeatedly gone on record to describe my frustrating with the way corporate media covers the unhinged fascist shit Trump says as if he's your just drunk uncle who talks about Fox News anti-migrant propaganda over Thanksgiving dinner, and not a guy running for, or serving as, President of the United States. Trump, a man devoid of a sense of humor, will muse about some flatly illegal dictator policies he wants to do in the future, corporate media will report his statements as if they're mere political gaffes, point out that Trump's plan is illegal or otherwise against the rules, and then sit around waiting for him to actually try the horrible nazi crap he is openly saying he wants to do.

There is little to no analysis connecting Trump's stated plans to the actions the regime is taking, and this style of coverage doesn't change much whether he's out of office, or legally enshrined with the powers of the imperial presidency to make his nazi dreams come true. If and when Trump *does* actually try to do the awful fascist nonsense he's been openly promising to do, a media that has all but memory holed his promises to do so acts shocked that Trump's team of nazi rules lawyers have found a Calvinball way to plausibly accomplish their fascist program.

I mention this because even before he was elected president a second time, Trump has been musing about staying on as President after his second (and final, as mandated by the constitution) term is up in 2028. Often this is framed as "running for a third term" but there have been enough ominous hints from Trumpworld that Downmarket Mussolini is not married to the idea of having another election at all, that it's pretty clear the plan is to simply have Trump refuse to leave office, one way or another. Is a mainstream corporate media that has watched Trump try to enact almost every authoritarian policy he promised or even hinted at on the campaign trail, taking this seriously enough? No, it is not; and I'm not sure I expect them to start doing so even now that Trump has directly told an NBC monitor on Meet the Press that he's "not joking" about remaining in office beyond his second term.

https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2025/03/trump-third-term-constitution-2028/

“I’m Not Joking”: Trump Again Floats Running for Anti-Constitutional Third Term

"Larry Sabato, director of the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia, said in a post on X that there may be three ways Trump could attempt to “grab” an illegal 3rd term: 1) Ignore the Constitution and dare anyone to stop him. 2) Have GOP-run states just appoint Trump electors since any state not voting Trump is by definition ‘corrupt’. 3) Military coup and martial law—i.e., a successful January 6.”

As I've mentioned before, there seems to be a definite process by which Trump, the regime, and the larger political movement surrounding him manufacture consent and transform ideological propaganda, into state enforced (un)reality, under a presumed mandate that their actions would be legitimate if what Trump says is true, and everything Trump says *is* true because he's president. Typically this involves Trump and his propagandists (like Steve Bannon) repeatedly injecting the idea of a fascist plan, like say to ignore the constitution and remain president after 2028, into the discourse as a hypothetical option, slowly transitioning that musing into the outlines of a plan "we're working on," before ultimately transforming that idea into policy, often via executive order.

Given that Trump has mentioned this in passing multiple times, guys like Bannon have openly talked about the plan to make it a reality going on behind the scenes, and now Trump is telling his base that he's dead serious about doing it, it's probably safe (even for corporate media muppets) to say Trump is actively in the process of trying to make himself president for life, by hook or by crook. And I dunno about you, but to me that sounds like big news it's important to share with the American people in detail, and with an appropriate degree of alarm.

Whether it's acceptable to mention it in polite discourse or not, the fascist GOP's plan to formalize national targeted voter suppression based on fascist conspiracy theories designed to explain why a bloviating reality TV show nazi lost the 2020 US presidential election, is a form of election rigging. We've already discussed Der Führer's recent (blatantly illegal) executive order to do just that, but the Republican plan to fuck elections and create their own permanent Pork Reich is a multi-pronged assault. One of the key spearheads in this quest to, again, rig elections by disenfranchising millions of voters who are statistically more likely to support the opposition party, is the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, or Save Act, currently being cooked up in a GOP fascist-controlled Congress.

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2025/mar/31/congress-republicans-save-act-voting-rights

Republicans are quietly trying to disenfranchise millions of voters

"According to research by the Brennan Center for Justice, more than 21 million US citizens of voting age don’t have easy access to proof of citizenship documents, and only about half of American adults have a passport, while millions do not have access to paper copies of their birth certificates. Married women whose legal names do not match their birth certificates could be disenfranchised by the Save Act, and folks looking to obtain lost or misplaced birth certificates would face financial and logistical hurdles.

The Save Act would restrict voters’ ability to register to vote online and through the mail while also severely limiting the ability of non-partisan civic organizations to conduct voter registration drives, which have been crucial to civic engagement for more than a century. That’s because, despite voters’ ability to register to vote at the DMV and registration efforts by political parties, data shows that voter registration drives from non-partisan organizations can account for about one-fifth of voter registration applicants – roughly equal to the political power of California, Florida and Texas combined. We simply cannot sit back and allow Congress or the White House to destroy the infrastructure of our elections by disenfranchising so many voters."

Look, I know Trump's unhinged fascist conspiracy theories about the 2020 election make most liberals very leery about uttering the words "rigging elections" but at some point you have to accept that you can't stop reality from being real, just because naming the beast makes you squeamish. Targeted voter suppression by the GOP has become so normalized that in a recent(ish) battle over election maps that clearly sought to minimize the political power of African American voters, GOP operatives defended themselves from charges of racial bias by saying they weren't restricting voters because they're Black, but rather because they vote Democrat. This is election rigging, by a fascist regime, headed up by a would-be King who keeps musing about violating the Constitution to seek a third term, and it's probably time to be honest with ourselves about what that actually means - an attempt to permanently install the US Republican brand of fascism in our society by preventing free and fair elections (such as those exist, in America.)

I mean let's cut the crap here for a second okay? The Save Act specifically targets voter registrations drives because the fascist GOP is openly arguing that registering people to vote, is somehow rigging elections. Let that sink in for a minute folks; a fascist regime is trying to rig elections through nationalized voter suppression because, and they essentially admit this, if everyone gets to vote they might lose power. The fact that this type of thinking and rhetoric is considered "normal" for the right wing party in America doesn't prove these guys aren't fascist, just that America has been embracing, normalizing, and ignoring fascism for a very long time before Donald Trump ran for office.

This is a short (14 minute) segment from The Humanist Report that covers a lot of the same ground I was writing about concerning Trump's very serious plan to violate the US Constitution and serve a 3rd term as president, and also his executive order designed, quite obviously, to rig elections. I've always been a person who needs to read words on a page or screen to really absorb analysis, but I know some of you learn better with the videos, so that's why I periodically share the good ones.

Like myself, the host is adamant that the mainstream establishment is fooling itself and engaging in wishcasting when it ignores the obvious reality that Trump, who just admitted he wasn't joking, fully means to do this. What he adds that I was trying to get at in my analysis but might not have made explicit enough if the pedantic pushback I heard from weird liberals is any indication, is that if Trump is working on illegally violating the constitution to run again, in an election he intends to rig, that means the regime is *already* attempting another insurrection (although technically, I think it would be another autogolpe.) Furthermore, if the regime were to hold such an election under those circumstances, it would obviously not be an election at all, but the consolidation of fascist regime change in the United States of America.

Trump Says He’s “Not Joking” About Running for a Third Term: “People Want Me To Do It”

YouTube

Unsurprisingly, our GOP-controlled Congress has passed an election rigging (voter suppression *is* election rigging) bill that mimics much of Trump's previous fascist election rigging executive order; the disingenuously named "Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act."

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/apr/10/safeguard-american-voter-act-house-bill

US House passes bill requiring people to prove citizenship in order to vote

"About half of US citizens do not have a passport, eliminating one of the main ways to show their ability to vote under the bill. Passport fees are currently $165. Joe Morelle, a Democrat from New York, responded to Republicans who spoke in support of the bill with estimates of how much money constituents would have to pay if they all had to get passports.

“Y’all, that’s a poll tax, plain and simple, and it’s blatant voter suppression,” said Nikema Williams, a Democrat from Georgia.

Some potential voters no longer have their birth certificates, or their birth certificates don’t match their current names if they changed their names in marriage or for other reasons, Democrats have pointed out. The bill directs states to come up with a process to address those who have changed their names, though Democrats contend this could be handled differently state by state, creating confusion, and it’s not clear how long it would take for rules to be put in place."

This is mostly just a "heads up" post because we've already looked at the Save Act and the GOP's quest to use fascist conspiracy theories about widespread voter fraud and the 2020 election to justify blatant voter suppression in the thread above; the bill still has to pass the Senate before it becomes law. What's important to understand in the here and now, is that a national voter suppression bill that disproportionately (to a massive degree) targets folks who are highly unlikely to vote Republican, is in fact a law designed to rig elections for the fascist GOP.

"Research from the Brennan Center, VoteRiders and other groups in 2024 found that more than 9% of voting-age citizens, about 21 million people, don’t have readily available proof of citizenship. These requirements have disproportionate impacts on people of color, young voters, rural residents, tribal citizens, people who are unhoused, people born in US territories and people who have experienced natural disasters.

Other elements of the bill have raised alarms among voting rights advocates and elections officials. It would upend online and mail registration, a particular burden on people in rural areas. States would be required to purge their voter rolls based on incomplete data and potentially start the deportation process for people who unlawfully registered to vote. It also installs criminal penalties for election officials who register people without the required documentation, even if the person turns out to be a citizen eligible to vote."

One of the problems with explaining America's descent into a fascist dictatorship to people who aren't particularly familiar with how fascist movements in history have operated, is that because the only frame of reference most folks who haven't studied fascism have to operate from are fully-realized fascist dictatorships like the one Hitler constructed in Nazi Germany, they often can't equate what they're seeing, with what they understand fascism to be. They don't realize that the erosion of our rights, and the establishment of one party authoritarian rule are almost invariably a process, and as such when you view an obviously fascist regime enacting that process in the same way fascists before them have done so, it's a pretty good sign that they're planning on reaching the same destination other politically-empowered fascist movements have arrived at.

I mention this because it is very clear to me that the Trump regime is working towards both rigging American elections permanently, and criminalizing its political opposition in any way possible. A good example of the latter situation might be Trump's corrupt Department of Justice promising to prosecute Democratic Party elected officials who don't cooperate with his mass deportation plot by letting ICE run roughshod over the cities and states they administer. A more subtle, but equally revealing example would be the announcement that Trump is ordering Attorney General Pam Bondi to drum up an investigation into ActBlue, a fundraising platform used to support liberal and progressive political causes; which for the most part means getting Democrats elected to office.

https://www.commondreams.org/news/donald-trump-actblue

'Authoritarianism in Action': Trump Orders DOJ Probe of Democratic Donation Platform ActBlue

"U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday launched his latest attack on political opponents by directing the Justice Department to investigate ActBlue, a critical fundraising platform for Democrats and progressive organizations.

The order came in the form of a memorandum that the president signed shortly before heading to his Virginia golf course for a $1 million-per-plate fundraiser for MAGA Inc., a pro-Trump super PAC that has been accused of receiving illegal straw-donor contributions.

In his memorandum, Trump raised "concerns" about straw donations—when a donor makes a contribution through another person or entity—and directed U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi to "investigate allegations regarding the unlawful use of online fundraising platforms to make 'straw' or 'dummy' contributions or foreign contributions to political candidates and committees, and to take all appropriate actions to enforce the law."

Trump's memorandum cites a recent report from House Republicans accusing ActBlue of "a lack of commitment to stopping fraud." ActBlue and House Democrats rejected the GOP findings at the time, calling the document "less of a report and more of a desperate effort to change the subject."

Frankly most people who know about ActBlue are probably only aware of them because of the incessant emails they'll send you once you've donated to any other fundraising campaign on their platform, but the reality that it's the premier fundraising arm for both Trump's liberal and progressive political opposition is pretty much the point here. As such I think Democrat leaders calling this another "distraction" need to take a walk outside and touch some grass, because this is clearly the Trump regime targeting its political enemies as part of an overall plan to essentially rig American politics.

We can talk till we're all blue in the face about getting money out of politics, but when the fascist GOP can take full advantage of billionaire money because of Citizen's United, and the Klepto Kaiser is simultaneously trying to shut down the political opposition's small dollar donation apparatus because of a fake corruption scandal cooked up by the regime's allies in Congress, you are looking at an obvious way for the nazis to put their thumb on the scale and thereby pre-determine the outcome of American elections. The fascists' attempts to excuse all of this by pretending they're trying to stop foreign straw donations, while celebrating the lawless rule of a man whose family is up to their eyebrows in Saudi bribe money, is just the crassly hypocritical cherry on top of this nazi shit-cake.

Common Dreams

A few days ago I wrote about Trump's authoritarian investigation into ActBlue in the context of rigging American politics, now the AP is reporting that Democratic Party-aligned activist groups like Indivisible are also preparing for the possibility Downmarket Mussolini and the Republican Party will come for them next.

https://apnews.com/article/democrats-trump-actblue-indivisible-legal-threat-fbi-42f502bcb5888b12628629710c6eb21b

Core Democratic groups are preparing to be targeted by the Trump administration

"The Democrats’ dominant national fundraising platform, ActBlue, and the party’s largest protest group, Indivisible, are working with their attorneys for just such a scenario, according to officials within both organizations. Trump’s top political allies have suggested both groups should face prosecution.

Other Democratic allies are planning for Trump-backed legal crackdowns as well. Wary of antagonizing the Republican president, most prefer to stay anonymous for now.

“Every one of our clients is concerned about being arbitrarily targeted by the Trump administration. We are going to great lengths to help clients prepare for or defend themselves,” said Ezra Reese, political law chair at Elias Law Group, which represents Democratic groups and candidates and is chaired by Marc Elias, the lawyer who has himself been a Trump target."

I generally don't have time to talk about speculative write ups like this one, but given that Trump has already ordered an investigation into ActBlue, and appears to be governing by fascist conspiracy theories embraced by the GOP at large, I think this one is worth keeping an eye on. In particular, any authoritarian repression directed at Indivisible would represent "crossing the streams" of the various fascist interests operating within the Trump administration because that group has intimately been involved in the anti-Trump, anti-Musk "Hands Off" protests; Musk in particular has publicly described them as "criminal."

Obviously I can't predict the future, but targeting activist groups aligned with his political opposition would definitely fit the pattern of building a patchwork Enabling Act that Trump has adopted so far. The regime is already creating the ideological justification to criminalize a key funding apparatus for the Democratic Party, and given that both DHS and the DoJ have directly implied that protesting the regime amounts to "domestic terrorism," I think it would be foolish to assume the Trumpenreich *isn't* coming for groups like Indivisible in time; and clearly Democratic Party-aligned groups of all stripes agree with me or they wouldn't be lawyering up in preparation.

Democratic groups like ActBlue and Indivisible prepare to be targeted by Trump

Some of the Democratic Party’s core political groups are preparing for the possibility President Donald Trump’s allies may soon launch criminal investigations that could handicap Democratic infrastructure. The Democrats’ dominant national fundraising platform, ActBlue, and the party’s largest protest group, Indivisible, are engaged in contingency planning with attorneys for such a scenario. Other Democratic allies are also planning for Trump-backed legal crackdowns. But most prefer to stay anonymous for fear of antagonizing Trump. Not long ago, it would've been unthinkable for a president to use the power of the federal government to target political adversaries. But Trump and the loyalists in his Republican administration have made no secret of their plans to do just that.

AP News

Of course, rigging elections is difficult, and in the near term the political opposition that's already in office will remain a thorn in the side of even the most prepared dictator. What a good reactionary autocracy needs is the removal of political figures who oppose the regime from government entirely; which is probably why Trump took to Truth Social a few days ago to propose the Republican Party literally remove Democrats trying to impeach him from Congress.

https://archive.ph/fRhUj

Trump Suggests Republicans Start Expelling Dems From Congress

"President Donald Trump suggested that congressional Republicans should expel Democratic lawmakers from Congress in response to a so-far small impeachment push that has not been endorsed by party leadership.

In a lengthy Truth Social post published late Thursday night, the president wrote: “The Democrats are really out of control. They have lost everything, especially their minds! These Radical Left Lunatics are into the ‘Impeachment thing’ again. They have already got two ‘No Name,’ little respected Congressmen, total Whackjobs both, throwing the ‘Impeachment’ of DONALD J. TRUMP around.

“The Republicans should start to think about expelling them from Congress for all of the crimes that they have committed, especially around Election time(s),” Trump continued, calling Democrats “very dishonest people that won’t let our Country heal” and “total LOWLIFES, who hate our Country, and everything it stands for."

“Perhaps we should start playing this game on them, and expel Democrats for the many crimes that they have committed,” the president wrote."

One of the things I wasn't entirely prepared for about the slide into fascist dictatorship under the second coming of Trump, was the juxtaposition of the gravely serious threat the Keltpo Kaiser's activities represent to American society, and the utterly asinine ways Trumpworld and even the larger media industry that covers US politics will talk about and analyze those threats; this is one of those stories. In this Rolling Stone piece for example, the focus is on pointing out that Trump is overreacting to a couple of lone wolf impeachment attempts because the Democratic Party does not in fact support impeaching Downmarket Mussolini on the leadership level. Uh, sure; whatever?

The fact is the Democratic Party *should* be dead serious about impeaching Trump because he's literally a lawless fascist who is governing by nazi conspiracy theories, and has set the country on the path towards a Christian Nationalist dictatorship in direct violation of so many laws and constitutional amendments I don't have time to list them all here. If ever the concept of impeachment had a purpose in American government, it would be to remove a president like Trump here in his second term; so whether or not Trump is lying about the Democratic Party being united in removing him is really not the fucking point here. Furthermore asking the fascist GOP to use its power to illegally expel opposition party members from Congress because they're using the completely legitimate authority granted to them to bring forth articles of impeachment against a president who is openly violating his oaths and American law, is textbook one-party state fascist regime bullshit. As such Trump musing about it on his private social media site is a major threat to American democratic society no matter how right, or wrong he is, about how much the Democrats oppose him; which is literally their job in the American system of government, even if you and I can both probably acknowledge that they suck at that job.

Of course the article does point out that Trump's inference that Democrats have committed "many crimes" in relation to attempts to remove him from office or prosecute him for completely legitimate crimes he actually committed, is absolute nonsense as far as we know. The truth however is that I don't really think Trump's tirade has anything to do with what the Democratic Party is, or isn't doing to impeach him at all. I think Trump, a man disturbingly obsessed with his own publicity, has clearly seen recent polling showing a slim majority of Americans as a whole favor impeaching him for the crimes and violations he's already committed in his second term. Yes the Klepto Kaiser is trying to criminalize his opposition, yes he's trying to make America a functional one party state; but I think Trump is also sending the message that if he's willing to go after Democrats in Congress for talking about impeaching him, anyone else bringing up the subject might be next.

I must confess that I do not like a modern political media environment where every deranged thing Trump posts on Truth Social has to be considered relevant news, but when Downmarket Mussolini uses openly fascist propaganda to push his 2020 Election conspiracy, aka "The Big Lie,' while simultaneously demanding the Department of Justice free a convicted co-conspirator in the pro-Trump far right's plot to overturn the legitimate results of the 2020 election, you kind of have to pay attention to that one.

Trump Demands Release Of Election Denier ‘Hostage’ Convicted By Colorado Jury

"In a Truth Social post Monday night, Trump referred to Peters’ prosecution as “a Communist persecution by the Radical Left Democrats to cover up their Election crimes and misdeeds in 2020.” He attacked Colorado’s Democratic attorney general, Phil Weiser, and demanded the Justice Department “take all necessary action to help secure the release of this ‘hostage’ being held in a Colorado prison by the Democrats, for political reasons.”

Trump said Peters, who he called an “innocent Political Prisoner,” had “worked to expose and document Democrat Election Fraud” — repeating his yearslong lie that he didn’t actually lose the 2020 election but, rather, was the victim of an impossibly complex, nationwide fraud scheme.

What Peters actually did — while working as the elected county clerk in Mesa County, Colorado — was allow a computer analyst associated with MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell into a secure in-person software update for the county’s election machines, in yet another unsuccessful effort to sow doubt about Joe Biden’s 2020 win.

The analyst, former pro surfer and RVCA founder Conan Hayes, attended the software update, using the name and recently issued office badge of a Mesa County local. Images of the update process, known as a trusted build, were later shared online and at a 2021 “symposium” on the 2020 election results hosted by Lindell — around the same time state officials arrived at the Mesa County clerk’s office to investigate."

I don't want to rehash the Trump cult's 2020 election denial schemes, but Tina Peters is the former clerk in Mesa County, Colorado who engineered an elaborate plot to let some yahoo connected to billionaire Trump-humping conspiracy crank Mike Lindell have access to voting machines during a software update meeting; she wasn't charged for he political beliefs, or even election denial, she's literally in jail for helping some fashy rando access voting machines illegally by impersonating an employee with clearance to access the machines, and lying about it to get him inside. Naturally, the Trump regime fucking loves this lady and I'm assuming the only reason she wasn't already pardoned by Trump is that she was convicted under Colorado state law and thus a federal pardon does her no good. As the article notes, the Department of Justice *has* gone as far as inserting itself in a highly political and partisan way in Peters' ongoing appeals process.

What's more interesting to me here however, is examining Trump's Truth Social post in the proper context; specifically as a piece of fascist propaganda that is disturbingly reminiscent of narratives manufactured by the German Nazi Party during Hitler's rise to power.

The depiction of Peters as a courageous political prisoner unjustly being punished for merely stating her belief that the 2020 election was stolen from Trump, which is in and of itself a piece of false fascist propaganda often referred to in the media as "the big lie" in a nod to statements by Nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels, is extremely reminiscent of interwar period Nazi propaganda about the purported persecution of violent Nazi street activists convicted of breaking German laws to further Hitler's cause. The portrayal of Peters' prosecution as a vast political conspiracy, and the conflation of Trump's milquetoast center right opposition with a "radical" (and presumably dangerous) left is also pretty much exactly how the Nazis portrayed efforts to hold them accountable on their way to absolute power. Finally, while I'm sure the inclusion of "Communist" will be shrugged off by most observers as Trump doing drunk grandpa Bircher things, I think it's much more likely given the context of the rest of the message, that this is a fascist dog-whistle to the nazi conspiracy theory known as "cultural marxism" - in which pretty much everyone opposed to them from equality activists, to "liberal" capitalist political figures, are all part of a gigantic Marxist (read: Jewish) plot to undermine America, capitalism, and "the white race."

Look, I get that Trump is absolutely not a student of Joey Goebbels and Nazi propaganda techniques; it's obvious that someone in the regime is feeding him these ideas. And since these ideas are objectively Nazi shit, I'm going to assume its Stephen Miller.

It's been a long while since we've checked in on Downmarket Mussolini's ongoing attempts to rig American elections, for either himself or other fascists in his party. I understand that many people are looking at a term limited, 79 year old fascist running a cult of personality and counting on time or circumstance to nip this problem in the bud, but that's pretty shortsighted in my opinion. This larger fascist movement's stated ambitions to permanently rig the American electoral process for fascists, as laid out openly in Project 2025, is a threat that exists beyond Trump's political career or lifespan.

As such, I think a recent New York Times report that Pork Reich officials have told Justice Department lawyers to explore whether or not they can criminally charge election officials for failing to "safeguard" their voting systems, should probably be generating more alarm than it is. And as it turns out, the extremely libbed up senior legal columnist at The New Republic, Harry Litman agrees with me.

The Little-Noted Trump-DOJ Move That Should Scare the Hell Out of You

"Democracy can weather a lot of damage and unlawful conduct at Trump’s hands, but if he succeeds in taking control of the machinery of elections, it could be a fatal blow.

That’s why a barely noticed story in The New York Times last week was so worrisome. As reported by the Times, unidentified senior administration officials have directed DOJ lawyers to explore the possibility of federal criminal charges against state or local election officials deemed to have failed to adequately safeguard computer systems.

Tellingly, the initiative isn’t grounded in any new evidence, data, or legal theory. It’s not about truth or justice. It’s a political and ideological ploy, reportedly incubated in the Project 2025 workshop—part of Trump’s broader effort to delegitimize democratic institutions and seize autocratic control."

I can literally hear you groaning "not this bullcrap again" through the screen dear reader, and I absolutely share your exhaustion - but yeah, as far as I can tell Trump is re-litigating the Big Lie to rig future elections for nazis. Furthermore, while I categorically reject Litman's assertion that a threat to democratic rights in an oligarchy lead by politicians almost universally owned by reactionary billionaires regardless of party, somehow supersedes all the other civil and human rights the regime is openly violating in importance (I imagine migrants being kidnapped and shipped to concentration camps in South Sudan might quibble with that statement too), I think we can all agree that sham elections that can only be won by Trumpenreich nazis would be a fucking disastrous outcome for American society. A good example of how such a political system would function in practice, would be Russia under Putin and I don't think there's anyone in the broader antifascist coalition in America willing to argue Russian elections are "democratic" in nature.

In terms of the operational mechanics, it's not hard to see that this whole scheme is basically a reanimation of every white supremacy-infused election conspiracy theory the larger right wing coalition behind the Republican Party has been pushing for decades, with a special emphasis on Trump's 2020 Big Lie propaganda. The regime is essentially arguing that corrupt election officials are rigging the computers for their opposition, and threatening criminal prosecution for nebulous enough crimes that they can pretty much target anyone who serves up an election result Trump does not like. No, that's not hyperbole - Litman agrees here too:

"Now, with the backing of a major-party nominee and the muscle of right-wing media, Trump is threatening to turn that isolated smear campaign into standard operating procedure. The message is simple: Help run an election that Trump loses, and we will come for you.

And, tragically, it may be working. Across the country, election officials have resigned in droves. Offices that were once nonpartisan and low-profile have become hotbeds of threats and suspicion. Trump has already browbeaten major law firms and entire universities into submission."

Please keep in mind that this intimidation and operational stacking of election boards is part of a much larger project, fueled by both the Big Lie and Project 2024, to control the election process across the country by this same fascist movement and political party. None of this is hypothetical, they're just now adding the full force of the fascist state and American legal system to the scheme. It's not MSNBC lib hysteria to say Trump is absolutely trying to rig US elections because Trump, the Republican Party, and the larger fascist movement in America have *been* trying to do precisely that - brazenly so, since January 6th, 2021.

These nazis are serious. Are we?

The Little-Noted Trump-DOJ Move That Should Scare the Hell Out of You

The Justice Department is looking at criminal charges against local election officials who don’t “safeguard” their systems. And yes, it’s as bad as it sounds.

The New Republic

Alright, so we now know Trump's Justice Department is threatening election officials across the country with federal prosecution, based on fascist conspiracy theories about voting systems integrity; a redux of "The Big Lie" that fueled Trump's political rebirth after losing the 2020 US Presidential election and the failed coup (autogolpe specifically) on January 6th, 2021. Whether the Trump regime fascists ever charge anyone with this nonsense or not, we know they're actively trying to take over election boards and the election process more broadly, all over the country. All that's left is to watch them put that control into practice, and I think this Common Dreams story is a good enough place to start on that front.

As recently reported in the Washington Post, Trump's Justice Department lead by Attorney General Pam Bondi, "has taken the unusual step of asking at least nine states for copies of their voter rolls, and at least two have turned them over." These efforts appear to be particularly focused on Colorado, a former battleground state that has been increasingly shifting towards Democrats, where a local Republican operative is pushing to allow the federal government to physically inspect their voting equipment.

'The 2020 Playbook on Steroids': Trump DOJ Requests for State Voter Data Spark Alarm

"Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold, a Democrat, called the Trump administration's efforts "the 2020 playbook on steroids."

"This all is part of a bigger ploy to further undermine our voting in this country," warned Griswold. "They are actively in a power grab."

Even some Republican election officials responded with alarm to the Trump administration's requests for voter data and access to voting equipment.

"To me, it felt like they were wanting to intervene before 2026," Justin Grantham, the Republican clerk in Colorado's Fremont County, told the Post, referring to the upcoming midterms.

Carly Koppes, a Republican clerk in Weld County, Colorado, said she rejected requests for a federal inspection of election equipment.

"That's a hard stop for me," said Koppes. "Nobody gets access to my voting equipment, for security reasons."

So, if you were wondering why Pam Bondi and the Trumpenreich Justice Department were looking for ways to prosecute election officials who don't go along with Trump's fascist conspiracy bullshit, even though the fascist right has already been quite successful at stacking election boards, including in many deeply blue counties, with Trump-humping Republicans, folks like Justin Grantham and Carly Koppes are the answer.

I think however the larger point to remember here is that absolutely none of this is actually about maintaining election integrity, and therefore none of the regime's actions have to be moored to the truth in any tangible way. For example, they're not asking to look at Colorado's voting equipment because they think they'll find something fishy. Rather, they intend to point to the investigation itself and any possible charges against Colorado election officials brought by Pam Bondi, which the Trump regime itself is creating whole cloth, as evidence that there is something fishy about a Colorado that doesn't go full fascist in the next cycle of elections. The ultimate results of those investigations and potential trials are largely irrelevant to the Trump regime's current goals of interfering with, and ultimately rigging the US electoral process.

This then brings us to the regime's ongoing obsession with obtaining access to voter rolls; attempts the Trump administration has made through a wide variety of methods, including the Department of Government Efficiency, formerly run by Elon Musk. Obviously, analysis isn't prophecy, but both the Trump regime and the larger Republican Party have aggressively been pushing conspiracy theories about undocumented migrants or deceased Democrats voting, so it doesn't really take a genius to figure out they want to use those voter rolls to generate trumped up accusations of widespread voter fraud, and then use that as a justification to purge or otherwise disqualify huge numbers of people likely to vote against them in upcoming elections. The fact that they can also feed all that data into the digital panopticon Palantir is building so Trump can find all his political enemies, is pure gravy for the Trumpenreich and Downmarket Mussolini.

For much of the past month and a half, we've all partaken of an American political discourse openly asking "why doesn't the Republican Party care about harming their own voters" in the face of an upcoming election cycle? I fear the answer to that question may well be that the Trump regime feels pretty confident about its ability to ensure they can't lose political power in rigged elections.

Common Dreams

If you thought that Attorney General Pam Bondi's role as Trump's personal heatsink in the now-mushrooming Jeff Epstein pedophile sex ring scandal the President is embroiled in would spare us her presence on the news, I regret to inform you that you were wrong. Everyone's favorite underqualified, over-caffeinated lawyer-like-substance has again turned up in the news cycle as part of the latest escalation in the Trumpenreich's open war on the American judiciary. This time, Bondi has retaliated to a US court's refusal to permanently install equally-sycophantic (towards Trump) minion Alina Habba as New Jersey’s top federal prosecutor, by immediately dismissing the court's replacement choice, career prosecutor Desiree Leigh Grace: Abba's second in command at the time.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/jul/22/alina-habba-new-jersey-prosecutor

Judges end Trump pick Alina Habba’s tenure as New Jersey’s top prosecutor

"According to an order from New Jersey’s district court, a panel of judges declined to permanently appoint Habba to be the state’s US attorney, signaling a rebuke against the Trump administration.

Habba inflamed Democratic hostilities when she brought charges, later dropped, against the mayor of Newark, Ras Baraka, and the state representative LaMonica McIver after they visited a privately operated immigration detention center in Newark.

The federal judges did not offer any explanation for their decision. But the order, signed by Renée Marie Bumb, the chief federal judge for the district of New Jersey, appointed Desiree Leigh Grace, a career prosecutor whom Habba had named as her first assistant US attorney, as her replacement.

The justice department accused the panel of judges of political motives for declining Habba’s nomination, and, hours later, the attorney general, Pam Bondi, said Grace also had been removed.

“This Department of Justice does not tolerate rogue judges – especially when they threaten the President’s core Article II powers,” Bondi wrote in a post on X, referring to Trump’s authority under the US constitution."

The political angle to this story is pretty straightforward, but it does a lot to illuminate the way Trump and his fascist minions operate to consolidate power in the executive branch. Trump used his power as President to temporarily appoint the woefully underqualified Habba, a personal ally and former lawyer of his, to be the US Attorney for New Jersey. In return she politicized the office towards fascist objectives, including ideological policing, targeting opposition party officials for harassment and prosecution, and working to "turn the state red" from inside a supposedly non-partisan institution that is instead behaving as Trump's legal goon squad. When Der Leader tried to make the situation permanent, the court rightfully declined and tried to appoint a real lawyer; which enraged Downmarket Mussolini enough that he just sent Pam Bondi out to fire that replacement.

To tell you the truth, I'm not really sure what happens next; as far as I can tell, the Court isn't required to accept Trump's attempt to subvert the nomination process and, Bondi can fire whoever she wants to on behalf of Trump. I can only assume the regime intends to argue that means they can appoint anyone they want for 120 days again, and then re-appoint Habba. Will that fly in court? Your guess is as good as mine, particularly given the open level of motivated reasoning a 6-3 fascist Roberts Court is now engaging in.

Perhaps the more important question here is, why is Trump so desperate to keep Habba in the New Jersey US Attorney's chair? I suspect the answer to that question can be found in one of the reasons a court just rejected her permanent installment - specifically Habba's establishment of an “Election Integrity Task Force." What the fuck does being a US Attorney have to do with mucking around in New Jersey's elections? Absolutely nothing, and that's why Trump needs a sycophantic nazi muppet like Habba to keep the job and make rigging elections on his behalf one of her day to day problems. Grace might (or might not) hate migrants and liberals as much as Bondi does, but she's far too familiar with what a prosecutor actually does for a living to be Trump's fixer for New Jersey in the upcoming election cycle.

I think if you take a step back and look at the entirety of the Trump regime's recent activities in and around elections, an obvious picture of how the GOP intends to rig the upcoming election cycle becomes clear. This effort involves using loyalists in the Justice Department to prosecute officials who won't let Trump rig the vote and generate the appearance of a crisis level threat to democracy, while simultaneously purging voter rolls of people unlikely to keep supporting Trump's fascist agenda, by any and all means possible. This isn't the kind of thing you do with lawyers, but rather ideologues like Habba and Bondi.

@AnarchoNinaAnalyzes

Just because Bondi fires Grace it does not make Grace ineligible for the position, although the judges may have to re-appoint. AFAIK the position does not require Justice Dept employment or approval.

Trump has a golf course in NJ.

@mrose The President literally has the power to remove US attorneys appointed by judges. Yet another "feature" of an American "democratic system" built with a draw-string that allows the ruling class to cancel democracy if and when necessary.

So you're right - Grace doesn't need Bondi's permission; but Trump can absolutely remove her.
