The moment a chancellor says “trickle down” we know:
1 they’ve been captured
2 they need firing
3 they’ve learned nothing from the past about what the finance sector does if left to its own devices: stuff its own pockets, crash world economies, demand bailouts.

Reeves to say cuts to City red tape will bring trickle-down benefits to households

Chancellor to announce raft of deregulation changes as City regulators move to pare back transparency rules

The Guardian
@ferryoons I think they are very aware of that on this system money only trickles up.
They're at the top of the managerial class, but are trained like any manager to cater to the real upper class.
Cynical lip service
.
@ferryoons ”Unleash growth” <- there’s another one
@ferryoons it's not clear from that article if "trickle down" is a phrase the Chancellor is using. They haven't released the speech, but the press release uses "ripple effect" (which may or may not be the same thing). https://www.gov.uk/government/news/reeves-to-cut-financial-red-tape-to-boost-homeownership
Reeves to cut financial red tape to boost homeownership

Red tape swept away in biggest financial regulation reforms in a decade to boost homeownership and put more money into people’s pockets through the government’s Plan for Change.

@ferryoons This marketing hook is the economic equivalent to the well-known and very successful , "there's life after death'.
@ferryoons
The Guardian have been a little cheeky there I think, in that I can't find a direct quote mentioning 'trickle-down'. I think Reeves is smarter than to use that phrase directly.
That said, I don't think it's an entirely unfair paraphrase of what is quoted.
@ferryoons - It's always "cut red tape" until a corporation somewhere takes advantage of a loophole and begins killing people. Then we end up with another Grenfell or another Herald of Free Enterprise. When (and only when) corporations can be trusted to look after the welfare of those they serve or employ will cutting red tape be appropriate. That's probably going to be "never" while there is money to be made by taking shortcuts.

@ferryoons

You're absolutely right of course.

I'm feeling particularly powerless lately, so merely raged to myself "WHAT IS SHE ON?" Knowing fine well exactly what's going on... then #Starmer topped things off by withdrawing the whip from people of conscience.
