"AI is a tool (sorry!) that people who are bad at their jobs will use badly and that people who are good at their jobs will maybe, possibly find some uses for. People who are terrible at their jobs (many executives), will tell their employees that they “need” to use AI, that their jobs depend on it, that they must become more productive, and that becoming an AI-first company is the strategy that will save them from the old failed strategy, which itself was the new strategy after other failed business models."

The Media's Pivot to AI Is Not Real and Not Going to Work

AI is not going to save media companies, and forcing journalists to use AI is not a business model.

@tante sounds like the start of a good malicious compliance.

just get it in writing that you have to use AI.

friendly reminder to all execs: when your employees ask for your order in writing, you should carefully rethink that order.

@tante
Thank you!
You make it sound as I’m good at my job.
So far, my experience is this:
In areas where I don’t know much, LLMs feel like they could be useful in the future.
In areas where I know a thing or two, their results feel banal or mediocre at best and not of much help. The best result would be putting information together that are easily accessible. But I wouldn’t use that without QA and therefore would not save much time. I’d rather have an intern do that.

@tante with the fun of English language, "tool" is also an insult

so yeah: AI is a tool (derogatory)

@tante Generative AI is a regression to the mean. People who are bad at their job can get a little bit better, but people who are good at their job will get worse when relying on AI.

The overall result is just OK performance. It will be worse when the people who rely on AI think that artificial intelligence is better than natural intelligence.
